Hatch & Co meats winter with a new menu

Winter, sweet winter. Three beautiful months (ok, in Brisbane it’s more like two) where pants with an elasticated waistband are easily disguised under your trendy sweater dress-come-food-baby-cover. But the most exciting part of the mercury dropping? New winter menus and a delicious reason to eat our way around the city all over again (it’s a whole new world). First stop on the winter menu train? Hatch & Co! Not that you really need an excuse to visit the Newstead venue famed for it’s scrumptious share plates and uber chilled setting under the iconic Gasworks ring, they’ve just launched a line-up of soul-satisfying dishes that might make you a little less grouchy at the cooler weather and more willing to put a jumper on and head out for meal. When a new menu drops, we’re always a little apprehensive that our fave dishes have disappeared forever, but not here – Hatch & Co’s infamous crispy spiced calamari and slow cooked lamb shoulder are still the stars of the show. If you prefer never to eat the same thing twice, however (a strategy we’ve seriously considered), there’s plenty of new and comforting feeds to sample, including harissa marinated wood-fired chicken with herby garlic yoghurt, and a vegetarian dish even us meat eaters could get behind: crispy chickpea panisse with roasted onions. Pair them with a few sides if you must, but we seriously recommend making sure you leave room for dessert. Chocolate sponge adorned with white chocolate mousse, brandied cherries, clotted cream and chocolate shards is calling your name – and so is a Hatch espresso martini, infused with maple for a wintery twist. Best of all, between 3 and 6pm every day you can get your hands on 2-4-1 pizzas – which also happens to be the perfect time for an afternoon wine, right? Either way, not having to choose between their chorizo, caramelised onion, feta and oregano pizza and cheesy margarita sounds like a good deal to us?
