 Halloween in Brisbane

Halloween is here, so we finally get to bust out the amazing costumes we’ve been working on since November last year.

We’re not in the business of spoiling surprises, so if you want to see what spooky threads we’re rocking this year, you’ll have to check out some of these events happening around Brisbane to find us.

Halloween Fright Night | Eagle Farm Racecourse

Nothing quite captures the (evil) spirit of Halloween like a good old-fashioned horror movie! Sure, you could stay in the safety of your home, beneath the comfort of a warm blanket during the scary parts, OR you could brave the open air of Eagle Farm Racecourse on Halloween night! As part of their Big Screen on the Green movie series, they’ll be screening James Wan’s landmark piece of horror cinema, The Conjuring. Boasting the biggest screen in the southern hemisphere, witness the terrifying adventure of paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren as you sit in pitch black surrounds. Good luck going to sleep after this.

Halloween Returns Party | Retros

If we had one complaint about Halloween, it would be the eye-rollingly excessive amount of Harley Quinns. If we had two complaints about Halloween, we would add that one night simply isn’t enough to enjoy everything that’s great about the spookiest holiday of the year. Luckily for us, Retros in the Valley are rectifying this by throwing not one, but two “Halloween Returns Parties” on 26 and 27 October! You’ll have two chances to lose yourself in a sea of ghosts, ghouls and (inevitably) Harley Quinns, as well as two chances at the prize for best dressed. Anything goes at Retros.

Halloween Ball | Fluffy

The night when evil spirits rise used to feel like a rather grim affair… then Fluffy came along and proved that even the scariest of nights can be filled with kooky fun and colour with their annual Halloween Ball! Join us at Family’s wildest night for an evening of gory glamour on Sunday 28 October. There’ll be of plenty of spooky surprises and fierce fun to be had, with Kryptonite’s Freak Circus and The Fluffy All Stars lighting up your night.

Wicked Halloween Party | The Wickham

Could there be a more appropriate place to spend Halloween than a Queensland pub that’s stood since 1885? Spooky… Join us (and the ghosts that haunt The Wickham) on Saturday, 27 October for the Wicked Halloween Party, where you can mash the night away with your fellow monsters to tunes from DJ Jamez Brown, as well as special guests. You’ll see us at the Corner Bar taking over the Kinky Karaoke Stage, because nothing’s scarier than a costumed group of strangers belting out a bunch of Chili Peppers… and that one Oasis song that everybody knows.

A Netherworld Halloween | Netherworld

The Valley’s fortress of retro gaming and pop culture was built for nights like Halloween. You’d be a fool of a ghoul to not creep by Netherworld on October 31, because anyone who arrives in costume instantly receives free gaming tokens and a Netherworld enamel pin designed by Schlock Lobster. Grab a frightful feed from the appropriately named Hellmouth Diner, give your soul to the music from DJ El Norto, and make the most of those tokens on Netherworld’s famous selection of games. Nobody’s going to appreciate your group costume of John Carpenter’s “The Thing” quite like the friendly freaks at Netherworld.

Trick or Treat on Little Stanley Street | South Bank

If you’re a fan of all things spooky, Little Stanley Street is set to deliver an epic spooktacular celebration. Traditional Halloween activities and the chance to trick or treat (and eat) is yours! Families – expect to see the street lined with colourful Halloween characters and be sure to BYO bucket to collect all the tasty goodies on offer. Restaurant staff will be donning their best spooky costumes and we’re told they will be VERY committed to character (ghoul hard or go home we say!).

Following the trick or treat trail, kids (and kidults) will arrive at the pumpkin patch (certified fit for the ‘gram!). For a gold coin donation, you can pick your perfect pumpkin, with all proceeds going to Aussie farmers who have fallen on hard times- we’re all about that charitable life! Bottom line: don’t bother googling the best suburbs in Brisbane for trick or treating, South Bank has you covered! Trick or treating will run from 5pm-8pm on Friday October 26 and Saturday October 27.

Haunted House Party | The Flying Cock

The Flying Cock is reviving the classic Halloween house party on Friday, 26 October, throwing down $250 cash for the spooky someone with the best costume! As if that wasn’t enticing enough, these champions of live music are packing a killer lineup for the night featuring George Neilsen and The Growing Pains, Polygon Woods and Magnus Murphy. They’re even bringing a face painter for those who don’t have a costume ready in time – so there’s no excuse for not getting into the Halloween spirit (they won’t judge you for the lack of costume but we might.)

Halloween & Day of the Dead Festival | Osbourne Hotel

The Osbourne Hotel is hosting a (very) long weekend of spooky shenanigans, kicking off with a midweek Halloween party on Wednesday, 31 October. You’re invited to enjoy cocktails with the dead and undead alike, before hitting the dancefloor and cutting loose with DJ Cutloose (because how else would you do it?) Plus, you’re welcome (*cough* expected) to dress up in your best Halloween threads. Your weekend’s just getting started, though, as The Osbourne is following up Halloween night with a four-day festival of Latin music, Mexican food and, most importantly, Patron Tequila cocktails to celebrate The Day of the Dead. Why settle for just one night of frightful fun when the Osbourne is offering five!?

Yelloween | Blackbird Bar & Restaurant

Never fear, Yelloween is here! Two worlds are colliding to create one devilishly beautiful (and delicious, and FREE) Halloween party. On October 27, Blackbird and Veuve Clicquot will feature endless champagne, Halloween inspired cocktails, and DJs KIN in the riverside bar turned haunted mansion. If you want to go the extra mile (treat yo’self), book a bottle serviced booth for you and a group of mates on (07) 3229 1200 or via You’re worth it.

There’s so much happening in Brisbane this Halloween, let’s just hope you make it out alive. *Cue Vincent Price laughter*
