  • Food & Booze
The biggest foodie event of the year is about to hit Brisbane, with Good Food Month kicking off on July 1 and showcasing the best of our food and wine scene right up until July 31. If you’re a sucker for a good breakfast, like a long lunch or just want to try something new from the culinary masters of Brisbane, Good Food Month 2016 has a delicious event for you. It can be hard to choose from all the tastiness on offer though, and there’s simply no way you can hit it all (trust us, we’ve tried), so we’ve put together our top picks for the month. So Much Gin, So Little Time | John Mills Himself | July 5-7, 12-14, 19-21, 26-28 | $40 Nestled in the mysterious John Mills Himself heritage building on Charlotte Street, this all-Australian line-up of gin is sure to be an educational and enchanting experience. You’ll taste six of the country’s premium gins while simultaneously learning about each distillery and the booming Australian gin industry. All tasting experiences include a cocktail too! MoVida Pop-up | Gerard’s Bistro | July 7 | $160 Brisbane is finally getting a taste of the celebrated Spanish eatery, MoVida. MoVida have had ongoing success in a number of locations across Melbourne, Sydney and Bali, and Brisbane are getting a one-off sneak peak with a pop-up hosted at Gerard’s Bistro. Seeking inspiration from his family upbringing and recent travels, restaurateur and acclaimed chef Frank Camorra will be cooking up a Mediterranean storm with a number of signature MoVida dishes, each expertly matched with a tipple. George Calombaris Gazi Pop-up | Atalanta | July 7 | $160 Watch Masterchef religiously but still can’t get enough of George Calombaris? Well you’re in luck, because he’s bringing his Greek culinary skills to Brisbane. Taking over the kitchen at Atalanta Bar and Greek for a night, Calombaris will work alongside chef Dean Brewer to share Gazi’s favourite Greek dishes, all paired with drinks. Night Noodle Markets | South Bank Cultural Forecourt | July 20-31 Noodle lovers, assemble! The highly anticipated Night Noodle Markets are back and they’re bigger than ever! The markets will offer 25 stalls from some of Brisbane’s most loved eateries across 12 nights. With free entry, there’s no excuse not to stop by and try the famous raindrop cake from Harajuku Gyoza or the pork belly satay sliders on a black bun from Pasar Malam. Fat Noodle Degustation | Fat Noodle | July 21 | $79 If you’ve never had a chance to sample the genius of Luke Nguyen at Fat Noodle before, now’s the time. Nguyen will be putting together a ten course dinner of signature dishes and personal favourites reinterpreting traditional Vietnamese family recipes with fresh Australian market produce – the way it should be! Floating Street-Food Market | Noosa | July 17 | $49 Set to be a unique and unforgettable experience, Noosa River will be the location a one-off Asian street food market inspired by Southeast Asia’s floating markets. Wander through stalls of street eats and use your 6 food tokens to stuff yourself with everything from satay sticks to spring rolls, then sit back and relax with some craft beer, wine and cocktails, accompanied by sunset tunes. There’s plenty more dishes, events and experiences to choose from if none of our picks take your fancy (or you just want MORE! MORE!). You’ll find options for breakfastlunchdinner, and drinks on the Good Food Month website. Words by Sushma Waller
