The Gold Coast breakfast bucket list

Living the coast life, one bite at a time.

Whether you’re a GC local, a sunburnt tourist or a hungry day-tripper, the beaches of the Gold Coast are home to some of Queensland’s best breaky spots. Here are our top picks.

PADDOCK | BURLEIGH HEADS

If you’re a foodie who’s been to the Goldie, chances are you’ve been to Paddock (or at least drooled over their Instagram).

We could talk at length about the sweet pastry delights, savoury bready goodness and epic milkshake offerings, but we’re too busy stuffing our faces with the iconic breakfast in bread (literally a breakfast cob loaf)!

THE MILKMAN’S DAUGHTER | MERMAID BEACH

This trendy Mermaid Beach spot has one aim in life: to offer the GC community a ‘feed good place.’ If you’ve ever been to The Milkman’s Daughter you can probably attest they’ve hit the nail on the head with that one, serving up wholesome veg-only eats like vegan nachos loaded up with baked beans, habanero jam, chimichurri, salsa, guac, and vegan cheese, and a next-level loaded banana bread.

BAM BAM BAKEHOUSE | MERMAID BEACH

Bam Bam, thank you ma’am. The baked goods that come out of this joint are truly next level, and so are the breakies! Whatever you do, make sure you snag a serve of the croissant French toast. Drool.

HOT SHOTT | MAIN BEACH

This soulful spot serves up an all-day menu that covers everything from breaky to dessert. Divided up by light options and hearty feasts, Hot Shott’s menu features stars like cinnamon scroll buttermilk pancakes, breaky sliders, acai bowls, and build-your-own-bagel boards!

ESPRESSO MOTO | PALM BEACH AND COOLANGATTA

For a no-fuss breaky with plenty of good vibes and a touch of vintage charm, it’s gotta be Espresso Moto. Hot tip: You will truly regret not ordering the salted caramel thick shake. Just do it.

BSKT | NOBBY BEACH

This health-conscious caf in the heart of Nobby is known up and down the Coast for its wholesome eats and accommodating menu, as well as its primo beachfront location. Take your pick of sweet and savoury healthy breaky treats, but be sure to save room for Cocowhip!

ELK ESPRESSO | BROADBEACH

A Broadbeach brunch institution for as long as we can remember, Elk Espresso offers up seasonal menus of nothing but the best.

Want to taste summer on a plate? Order their mango Weis bar waffle, and thank us later.

DAYMAKER ESPRESSO | MIAMI

A grungy warehouse, a kitchen serving summer-ready breakfasts all year round, and specialty coffee poured to perfection… get ready to have your day well and truly made at Daymaker Espresso. For those who like it hot and heavy in the mornings, we strongly recommend the chilli scrambled eggs.

DAARK ESPRESSO | LABRADOR

A favourite for those up the northern end of the GC, Daark Espresso is known for its caffeinated bevs, perfectly-plated breakfast, and welcoming staff. We’d know… We keep coming back time after time for that Cinnabon French toast.

CARDAMOM POD | SOUTHPORT

With a cosy locale in Southport’s Brickworks, Cardamom Pod is the all-vego cafe that plant-based dreams are made of. If you’re struggling to decide between the inventive sweet and savoury breaky options, you can happily sit on the fence with the pumpkin pie pancakes with wattleseed cashew cream, homemade Nutella-style sauce, gingerbread sauce, crushed meringue, chocolate bark and berries.

CAFE D BAR | COOLANGATTA

Perched atop Dbah Hill with glorious views out to the ocean, Cafe D Bar is one of our go-to beachside cafes this side of the QLD/NSW border. A classic breaky menu has all your favourites plus some not-so-traditional picks like the pork and prawn okonomiyaki. Too good.

The holy trinity: sun, surf, scrambled eggs.
