Gerard’s Bistro is named Queensland’s best restaurant

  • Food & Booze
If you haven’t yet frequented famed Queensland eateries like Gerard’s Bistro, Esquire, and Wasabi Restaurant & Bar, it’s officially time to stop missing out. These local spots have once again been placed on the list of Australia’s Top 100 restaurants by the Australian Financial Review, so if they’re still on your ‘must eat’ list, you should pick up the phone and book a reservation ASAP. Continuing to win tastebuds left, right and centre, Gerard’s Bistro has taken out the title of Queensland’s best restaurant for 2016. We always knew Head Chef Ben Williamson’s exotic, flavourful menu was a winner, but we’ll take this as an excuse to go and sample it anew. The announcement also means that plenty of top notch Brisbane spots (including the winners) are hosting exclusive events with specially crafted menus just for the occasion, from 3-23 May. Since we can’t literally push you out the door, we’ll have to settle for wholeheartedly recommending attending as many of these Dining Program events as you can while they’re still around. Dine with Queens | Cinco Bistro | Camp Hill | May 19 Home is where the good food is (that’s the saying, right?), and Cinco Bistro is dedicating a meal to everything local. The menu for this dinnerr has been designed around seasonal ingredients, with everything obtained within a 50km radius of Brisbane. You’ll experience dishes such as soft shell crab with kohlrabi pickle, sweetcorn emulsion, and Samford goose leg with red cabbage puree, potatoes, and pears. Tickets to this farm-to-plate event are $90. Alice in the Wonderland of Alchemy | Alchemy | CBD | May 20 The exquisitely unusual Alchemy Restaurant & Bar is devoting a night to Alice, the Mad Hatter, and everything else utterly bonkers. Rest assured that the Cheshire cat will act as your guide while this five course degustation becomes curiouser and curiouser. For $150, you will receive matched drinks and the desire to know why a raven is like a writing desk. Harajuku Pop-Up Party | Saké | CBD | May 20 You won’t want to miss this one night only event at Saké, where you will be whisked from Eagle Street to the Tokyo district of Harajuku. Food, cocktails and live performers will recreate a night of Asian discovery and adventure (without forking out for plane tickets, mind you!). Entry to the event is $50, and includes a complimentary cocktail on arrival. Birds of a Feather | Catbird Seat Bistro | May 21 Don’t fly the coop without checking out the event at Catbird Seat Bistro. There’s nothing fowl on this menu, which has been dedicated to all things bird. You’ll be hooting at themed dishes such as ‘What came first?’ and ‘Duck, duck, goose.’ Early birds will find this dinner priced at $150 with matched wines. Many Feasts from One Beast | Blackbird Bar & Grill | CBD | May 3-23 Black Bird Bar & Grill are crafting an entire feast from just one beast. During this event, the chef will demonstrate how many meals can be created from a single pig. Menu items will include rolled pork belly, black pudding with bacon, and even a ‘silk purse’ made from a sow’s ear. Waste not, want not! The cost of this meal starts at $95, or you’ll pay $140 with matched wines.
