Gelato Messina is visiting James St this weekend!

Gelato Messina, Sydney’s dessert royalty and the geniuses behind the icy creations we drool over on every trip to the southern states or the Gold Coast, is pairing up with Gerard’s Bar for the food collaboration of the year. For us it’s never to cold for sweet, creamy gelato (especially in the flavours Gelato Messina makes – strawberry fudge and donuts, anyone?), but the specially created winter desserts coming to Gerard’s Bar’s Aperitivo Sundays this weekend are particularly enticing. The details of the creations will be delicious surprise but we can tell you that there will be chocolate loaded dessert featuring pistachio gelato, which will be outshone only by a boozy gelato cocktail combining Tonka bean and bergamont sorbet with liquid giggles. Yes, gelato and booze in one glorious glass of sweet, alcoholic goodness. See why we’re excited? Donato Toce, Messina’s Head Chef, has joined forces with Gerard’s Bar’s Ben Williamson to come up with the creations, and we are in awe of their ingenuity. You’ll have to be quick to sample the dessert, as it’s only available this Sunday, June 14, while the cocktail will be available for the next four Sundays, until the 5th of July. The Sunday sessions also offer jugs of Aperol Spritz and a selection of babecued meats with old school hip hop tunes in the background from 3pm until late – the makings of a perfect Sunday, really. Gerard’s Bar is open from 12pm-1am on Sundays. And the rest of the weekend if you’re keen for wine and charcuterie – but that cocktail, right?! Words by Ranyhyn Akui
