From Dawn til Dusk : Artie & Mai
17 Jan 2018
New year, new Artie & Mai. The Albion neighbourhood favourite is proving it’s no one trick pony with the launch of dinners in 2018 (yasss!), as well as a revamped breakfast menu to kickstart your morning. If you’re more if a night owl than an early bird, it’s time to rejoice because starting January 18, Artie & Mai are open for dinner on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Complementing the cafe’s relaxed, local vibe, the modern Australian inspired menu is one you’ll want to savour over a few hours (and wines) with family and friends, featuring a mix of small plates, mains, burgers and pizzas. Sucker for a bargain? Get ready to shake things up with $15 pizzas on Thursday nights and a Friday afternoon happy hour that’ll have you toasting the weekend right. Team your pint of pale ale with a pulled pork, chickpea and caramelised onion pizza – or for something snacky get stuck into pork belly bites with fennel jam or panko crumbed haloumi with lemon vinaigrette. Aiming big? The bbq beef back rib is a beast, with house made wedges and a pumpkin puree. More into early mornings than EDM? Roll up your yoga mat and roll into Artie & Mai for the Healthy Bowl with avocado, poached egg and beetroot tzatziki or spring into something fresh with the spring onion and feta hash cakes with tomato relish, poached eggs and salmon. Feeling a little seedy? Too many of the aforementioned adult bevs last night? Dr G&G has the cure, and it’s the Brunch Burger with house smashed hash cake, bacon, egg, mushroom, chilli (sweat it out!) and aioli. Pair it with Tropical J Fizz (passionfruit, mango, orange and mint), or succumb to temptation and just grab a Bloody Mary, we all know you’re thinking about it. Sweet tooth? Rather your caffeine in food form than sipped from a latte glass? Morning or night, Artie & Mai have your dessert-first mantra sorted thanks to coffee Kahlua Waffles, topped with white chocolate, vanilla bean ice-cream and seasonal fruits. We’ll take two, thanks! Whether you’re looking for the cure to what ails you, a belly busting breakfast with mates or a cheeky neighbourhood catch up – try as you mai-t, there’s no beating Artie & Mai. Words by Emma Callaghan – the gourmand who knows waffles are appropriate any time of day.
