In a bid to satisfy our extravagant tastebuds whilst still affording the luxury of slinging horrendous chat across our wine glasses (sans judgement) we’ve hunted down the Brisbane hot spots that are nailing fine dining without the fuss!

Gauge | South Brisbane

The kings of understated elegance and organic genius, Gauge offers diners a taste of the swanky experimental with a native Australian twist, minus the snootiness! From aged beetroot soaked in beef juices, to blood tacos with bone marrow and thyme – this is fine dining, unlaced.

Seymour’s Cocktails & Oysters | Caxton Street

Red velvet curtains, champagne, cocktails and oysters. Sounds fancy right? Well it is, kinda but this smoky little bar is all about indulgence without the trappings. From raid the cellar (half price) wine nights to charcuterie and degustation dinners – this place is date night, quiet night and birthday night approved. Oh, and it’s also home to some of Brisbane’s finest bartenders who love a bit of banter while they make you your favourite drink. Think there’s nothing humble about champagne and oysters? Think again!

Beccofino | Teneriffe

This gem is by no means a new haunt, but it should be recapped – and shouted from rooftops, because the team here nail the unicorn-esque, impossible combination of delicious, simple, elegant food wrapped in super friendly service! Beccofino is a Teneriffe institution, famed for its signature dish of Duck Ragu (just ask the locals) among other epic Italian cuisine like carpaccio, pizza and rib fillet. It’s first in best dressed here with a no booking policy, so get in early or sit in the bar sipping on an Aperol Spritz and practise your Italian with the bubbly wait staff.

Greenglass | CBD

It’s French cuisine meets Australian wine in an exposed brick, understated-and-super cool vibe slice of the CBD. Humour your fancy t-buds with Coffin Bay oysters and salmon tartare while you dig into fried-squid tagliatelle or beef parmentier. Want more? They run breakfast until 2pm. Finally, somewhere we can go and confidently announce our preference for eggs long after midday. Importantly, the wine list is epic, 110 bottles of our favourite elixir line the back bar and they boast an even more extensive cellar selection. Greenglass has all of the fancy good stuff, without the hectic cutlery.

Rogue Bar + Bistro | Newstead

Remember when Newstead used to be all dust and gasworks and no traffic? Those days are long gone and thank goodness! Because (besides the traffic), this new Stead has heralded the arrival of unfussy, edible elegance like Rogue Bar +Bistro. You’ll find this gem under a canopy of fairy lights on Austin Street where you can gorge on modern Australian fare like twice-cooked duck leg, vegetable linguine with zesty sides of watermelon with pickled onion and goat curd! This crew also offer a weekend brekkie catering to truffle and peanut butter pancake connoisseurs alike. Suburb dwellers unite!
