Feasts and Flicks during this year’s OpenAir Cinema
Aside from a bout of hay fever here and there, spring is well and truly the time to be outdoors. In good ol’ Brisvegas, this usually translates to checking out one of the many festivals that rock the city each weekend, picnics by the river or cocktails on one of our best rooftop bars.
But this spring, you can have flicks, festivals – and most importantly FOOD – all at once (cue the swooning). Why? American Express Openair Cinema will be hitting Brisbane this October and November.
Set to sprawl across South Bank Parklands, it’ll showcase newly released films, cult classics, delicious bites from Salt Meats Cheese, live music, DJs and more.
Salt Meats Cheese’s head honchos Stefano De Blasi and Edoardo Perlo will whisk you to Rome as you indulge in their Italian creations before catching the latest films.
After watching Blade Runner 2049, you and your Mum can commiserate over the fact that you can’t marry Ryan Gosling (or in your mum’s case, Harrison Ford) over a bowl of Truffle Pecorino Pasta. The combo of cheesy pasta tossed through a wheel of truffle pecorino, and topped with extra truffle, is set to stun, alongside their wood-fire pizzas, arancini and antipasti.
If drooling over Colin Firth (even at 57 he’s still got it) in Kingsman: The Golden Circle has left you and your friends parched, beeline to The OpenAir Bar and toast with frose, 4Pines craft beer and Giesen wine.
Take a trip to the Crafty Corner to pimp a pineapple or join a masterclass in knitting or macrame. Or if you need a little support to make it through the Halloween screening of IT, the RSPCA has gotchu: sign up for a Doggy Date to pat a pooch throughout the movie.
With bites to excite, and movies like The Battle of the Sexes and Logan Lucky to entertain the rest of your senses (not to mention the 60+ other events also going on during this festival!), you would be crazy to not embrace the outdoors and head to Openair Cinemas this spring!
It’ll be rockin the Rainforest Green at South Bank Parklands from 6 October to 19 November. To check out the program and nab your tix, head here.
