Eat and drink your way through the 4th of July
21 Jun 2015
The land of the fries and the home of epically sinful fare, the USA has long been the supreme ruler of heart-stopping, larger than life eats. With serving sizes only rivalled in enormity by national monuments, y’all know that the US never do anything by halves. It seems totally fitting, then, that two of Brisbane’s best American-style joints to get down and well-fed at are set to help you party through the 4th of July in true red, white and blue style! Mighty Mighty, who have built their reputation on bold American flavours, will be flying the flag for good food and a one helluva good time, with a three course dinner for $65. Celebrating all things Americana, expect to wolf down punchy, crunchy Waldorf chicken salad, Wagyu short ribs smothered in sticky, finger-licking molasses BBQ jus, and warm apple pie with Sailor Jerry rum muddled custard. For the proper party people amongst us, Buffalo Bar are sure to help you let your hair down by pulling out all the stops for an all-day shindig of epic proportions. This place is an unbeatable mix of rockabilly awesomeness, Manhattan chic and California chill in bar and restaurant form: stepping into Buffalo Bar will leave you feeling, as Elvis himself said, ‘all shook up’! At Buffalo Bar’s Festival and Feast of the Free, freedom chasers are invited to get down for a day-long celebration, with festivities set to continue well into the night. Kicking off at 12pm, the festival, complete with US far and booze, live entertainment, games and competitions, promises to be an all-American celebration like no other. Prepare to dine, drink and jive the night away to beats from a live band who will be belting out classic US anthems throughout the evening. In addition to the usual bar food suspects – wings and hoagies – Buffalo Bar has drool-worthy line up of specials of offer across the entire 4th of July weekend. Joining the front line, for a limited time, is a sumptuous lobster roll and Texan style chilli. The US craft beer will be flowing in the form of a plentiful selection of imported and craftily chosen brews that will be sure to keep you foot-loose and fancy-free. Plus, there’s two new cocktails making an appearance in honour of the occasion: a Sweet Alaskan Bloody Mary to keep things cooler than cool, and a Kentucky Mint Julip for a Southern style shake-up to your usual drinks order. For those seeking a delectable dining experience, look no further than the Feast of the Free. Dine like The King on Jambalaya jam-packed with roast peppers, chicken and shrimp, brisket meatloaf or drunken trifle. There’s only two sittings available for both dinner events, so be sure hit up Mighty Mighty or Buffalo Bar to secure your spot! This is one Saturday celebration that will have you singing praises to Lady Liberty herself!
