Corinda’s new café dishes up breakfast with a difference

  • Food & Booze
We’ve all been there before, the breakfast rut. The pattern of visiting the same cafes, for the same meal (avocado toast with dukkah, we’re looking at you!). Leaving consistently happy but never particularly adventurous. We are understandably excited when a café offers the same same but a little different, which is exactly what Corinda’s latest breakfast haunt by chef Kym Machin is doing. With a menu full of all-day-brunch favourites that are far from ordinary, Same Same but Different is one café worth the trip to the ‘burbs. samesamebutdifferent-2Here, brunch lovers devoted to avocado toast will be appropriately appeased by the ‘Another Bloody Avo’, with avocado, Danish feta, whipped garlic, toasted pepitas and greens on sourdough with lime. The French toast favourers will fancy the ‘Sort of Canadian Breakfast’ of French toast bites, candied bacon, maple Chantilly and coffee milk jam, while if you’re more partial to potato cakes, the ‘Pablo Diablo’ will please the palate with a Mexican twist. Say hola to haloumi, potato hashcake, pulled pork, avocado, corn and black bean salsa, fried eggs and green mole! Give the drive-through muffin a miss and try the ‘Piggy in the Middle’ with egg, bacon rashers, kransky, cheddar potato cake and smoked tomato relish. And we can speak from experience when we say the gluten free and dairy free ‘Same Same Honey Smacks’ will not only entice the health-nuts but anyone keen to try an inventive take on granola. You’ll never look at cereal the same way when you’ve had honey roasted puffed grains with an acai and banana parfait and almond milk cinnamon smoothie! samesamebutdifferent-3The lunch menu available from 12pm (or earlier if you ask nicely!) is an equally as enticing affair. Say goodbye to boring café salads and a hearty hello to the likes of roasted wagyu with caramelised garlic cream and heirloom carrots or the haloumi with quinoa, beetroot, za’atar and cashew cream. And then there’s the peanut butter s’more waffles – need we say s’more? If that’s not enough to get you excited, then the prospect of ‘fun shakes’ will be. The Same Same but Different version of freakshakes are served with local favourite Lick! ice cream and are the stuff that Instagram foodie dreams are made of. Try to resist the strawberry shortcake berry milkshake with jam doughnut or the unequivocally fabulous ‘nuts for chocolate’  hazelnut shake with Nutella filled donut and Lindt balls. Utterly drool-worthy! Same Same but Different – same comfy suburban café feel, VERY different menu! Pay them a visit between 6:30am and 4pm Monday to Sunday at 7 Donaldson Street Corinda.
