Come out of your shell at the Port Office Hotel
06 Jun 2016
Make no missed-steak, when it comes to iconic Brisbane watering holes, nothing quite compares to the Port Office Hotel. Located right in the bustling heart of the CBD, this historical pit stop has been the preferred home-away-from-home for Brisbane’s thirstiest punters since 1909. Though the heritage listed venue has a reputation for flooding not once, not twice but three times (!) since it opened, you’re more likely to find the public bar and restaurant flooded with hungry Brisbanites hunting down some of the city’s best pub fare. Don’t let her age fool you, this charming two story Queenslander boasts sleek, modern interiors, award winning food and a killer cocktail line up that keeps us coming back again and again (and again and again). And with their signature restaurant Fix dishing up a new oyster special for the month of June, you shouldn’t resist dropping in and getting a little shucked up. Just in time for EOFY, there’s never been a better excuse to put down that calculator, pick up a cocktail and get up close and personal with freshly shucked oysters plucked straight from the pristine waters of Coffin Bay. The best part? At just $1 a pop, all day every day, you can afford to be a little shellfish. Oysters not your flavour? That’s ok. We understand. We just probably can’t be friends anymore. But while you’re busy mourning our lost love, at least you can make friends with the rest of Fix’s multi-award winning menu. Think juicy Cape Grim steaks seared to perfection and served with herb roasted seasonal vegetables, and desserts like their lime curd meringue tart with white chocolate ganache and coconut sorbet. Prefer to graze at the bar while you sip on classic cocktails whipped up by creative bartenders, or share a jug of fruity Pimm’s with friends on the balcony? Nibble on ham and cheese croquettes, salt and pepper squid and pork belly spring rolls, or class up your lunch hour with a $15 burger specials. With three unique bars to choose from, ranging from the fast paced and lively atmosphere of The Marble Bar, to the impossibly chic intimacy of their newly renovated Fix Wine Bar there’s a tipple for every kind of pleasure seeker at the Port Office Hotel. Speaking of tipples did we mention the wine list? From boutique Australian labels to splurge worthy international vintages, there’s nothing we love more than cosying up in one of their plush leather arm chairs for a spell while we pick and choose over their latest rare find. Whether you’re looking for a function venue, fine dining destination or just a good old fashioned Friday pick-me-up, the Port Office Hotel is the perfect example of why just like a fine wine, she just keeps getting better with age. Words by Rachel Murphy Keeping the G&G up to date with all the latest tasty tidbits requires a lot of double lattes and espresso martinis, so we occasionally need to give out some sponsored love. But rest assured that we only work with businesses that we think are really nifty, as the sponsor for this post is!
