Coffee with Conviction

For most of us, the morning coffee run is a necessary part of our routine. Here at G&G we’re the first to admit to groaning #coffeeislife while desperately clutching our brew on a Monday. But what about those who don’t know where their next meal is coming from? One Brisbane cafe is on a mission to prove that coffee IS life, or at least a way to help improve the lives of others. For five years, Cup From Above has been helping the Brisbane community one coffee at a time. So much more than just café, Cup From Above is actually a registered charity, ensuring that each cuppa sold goes to assisting those in need around Brisbane. And in good news for us city dwellers, they’ve recently relocated to Fortitude Valley’s bustling Ann Street. Cup From Above Fortitude Valley For the guys at Cup From Above, coffee isn’t just a state of bean-ing, but also a way to help those in the community who are struggling with homelessness, addiction, and poor mental health.  They’ve developed some amazing outreach programs like ‘the sevens’; a training program helping underprivileged people find employment. There is a latte to love about ‘the sevens’ as its ripple effect also ensures that individuals who undergo training pass on their lessons to others. No one proves this better than the baristas at Cup From Above itself, many of whom were part of the training program and now spreading their positivity and coffee skills one brew at a time! Previously located in Aspley, Cup From Above’s new place is groovin’ with good vibes, graffiti covered walls and aromatic blends filling the air.  And it probably goes without saying, but the coffee is top-notch too. Devoted to keeping the community warm during those wintry mornings, the baristas also provide suspended coffees for those who otherwise would have to go without. Words simply can’t espresso how awesome this café is! If you’re after a quality coffee that not only tastes good but feels good as well, head down to Cup From Above and spread the love. See you there!   Words by Jacqueline Pon
