Cheap eats #45

Ekka winds be damned, there was no way you were missing out on that strawberry sundae. And we can hardly blame you – after all, who can claim their ‘Brisbane local’ status if they haven’t spent the day poring through show bags, clutching the bars on dizzying thrill rides, and (it goes without saying) eating far, far more than your gym buddy would approve of? But if it’s a sad post-Ekka week budget that you’re stuck with, we’ve got just the ticket (and no dagwood dogs in sight, we promise).
Crave NYC | Brisbane
Ekka fried food detox, anyone? CBD workers should take a gander down Adelaide Street, for something healthy AND delicious. At Crave NYC, a trip to the Big Apple will only run you $7.90, and you’ll leave with a salad bowl piled halfway to the Empire State Building. Custom build your monster-sized salad with all your favourite goodies… and maybe a couple of baddies. We choose to believe a salad packed with pastrami and croutons is still a salad.
Jai Thai | Toowong
While you don’t exactly need to curry our favour to get us down to the local Thai joint, it’s not a point of contention if they want to make our next binge-fest a little easier on the wallet. Right by the Toowong train station, a commute to Jai Thai will earn you a curry lunch for a cool 10 bucks on weekdays. We’ll take four red chicken curries and no judgement, thanks. And yes, this means you don’t need to spend the next week living off Bertie Beetles. Words by Samantha Chariton
