Cheap Eats #39

  • Food & Booze
Had one too many packets of 2 minute noodles for lunch lately? Getting evil glares every time you open yet another tin of sweet chilli tuna to tip on your microwaved rice? Adulting may not be all it was promised to be when you were 17 (why did no one tell us about all the GOD DAMN BILLS?), but at least your diet can live up to expectations with these cheap eats. Hatch & Co | Newstead Take one of your equally broke pals over to Garden City and head to Hatch & Co between 3pm and 6pm and grab yourselves a pizza each and a drink for half the price – they’ve got 2 for 1 pizzas every afternoon with any drink purchase! As long as you don’t get distracted by the shopping centre full of sales right next door, you can sit down to a combo of chorizo, caramelised onion, feta and oregano, and prosciutto, roast garlic, fontina and basil – and maybe even splurge on a peach bellini or two. Lefkas Taverna | West End Just because adult life has left your pockets empty doesn’t mean you can’t treat yourself to a feast fit for a king. Lefkas Taverna’s takeaway menu is crazy cheap, so you can get super excited about drool-worthy mains that’ll only set you back between $6 and $13. Eggplant, mince and potato moussaka for $10, spinach lasagne for $10 or stuffed eggplant with rice and tomato salsa for $6 is definitely a delicious way to perk up those pre-pay day lunches and dinners! Money well spent! Words by Kate Streader
