Cheap eats #36

Well, 2016 is chugging along nicely and you’re probably starting to run low on Christmas gift vouchers. And let’s face it, Easter’s great, but post-holiday discounted chocolate doesn’t pay the rent. Don’t be an April fool and live on baked beans all month! If you’re straining to make your budget last the whole semester, or the string of public holidays is about to leave your pockets emptier than usual, check out these cheap eats. Bavarian Bier Café | CBD Going hungry is the wurst. Luckily, these German guardian angels can put a stop to your sauer(kraut) mood. Bavarian Bier Café’s crafty new menu sports five different styles of hotdog, and each are going for just $10, all day every day. Each filled with a traditional German sausage and plenty of belly-filling accompaniments, we can guarantee that the hole in your stomach will be filled full of brat and kraut. Stick to traditional with a Munich Dog filled with a frankfurter, sauerkraut, spiced mayo, mustard and ketchup, or spice things up with Chillin’ Wagyu Dog stuffed with a Wagyu chili beef sausage, BBQ sauce, shredded cheese and pickled jalapeños. Bellbowrie Tavern | Bellbowrie For the Western mouths that need filling, Bellbowrie Tavern understands. This little spot is out near the Moggill Ferry, so it’s a handy stopover for anyone commuting to Ipswich, and the tavern has several menu deals that’ll lessen the impact on your cheque book. On Mondays, you can grab a fresh serving of barramundi with chips and salad for just $12, while on Tuesdays (also known as Parmageddon Tuesday) they offer two parmys for the price of one between 5.30pm and 8.30pm. Cheap meal for two, or chicken gorge-fest for one? We’ll let you decide. With cheap eats like these, we can probably stretch our Christmas gift vouchers to last until July! Words by Samantha Chariton
