Burger Project finally hits Brisbane

  • Food & Booze
You wouldn’t think it would be possible to still get excited about a new burger spot after wrapping our hands around many, many dozens of them – but with Neil Perry’s burger chain finally arriving in Brisbane, we find ourselves drooling in anticipation. Just landed in the new Southpoint precinct in South Brisbane, Burger Project has thrown open their doors with a bang, dishing up burgers, shakes and soft serve ice cream in a slick casual eatery. If you haven’t checked out his buns down in Sydney or Melbourne, you might at least know the back story – after Perry’s top notch burger at Rockpool Bar & Grill amassed itself a cult following, the renowned chef decided to make it more accessible (read: cheaper) and take on the big guns in the fast food world with a burger joint that dishes up top notch food at street food prices. Here, it all starts with the meat – grass-fed beef is ground in house to make the beef patties, which are then piled on soft buns with house made secret sauce and fresh toppings. You can just get your hands on a classic cheese burger with cheese, onion, pickles and tomato and sauce, or go big with a bacon, mushroom or double beef loaded burger, paired with a side of Chipotle salt chips and a malted thick shake of course. Prefer your burgers crispy? Don’t worry, Burger Project also does chicken stacks, with fried chicken katsu numbers loaded with coleslaw, pickles, lettuce and katsu sauce, as well as a mushroom burger for the vegos out there. After getting messy with a burger (and you will get messy), you can dig a spoon into one of the burger joints house made soft serves, either as a sundae with sweet toppings or in a waffle cone. Oh and they also pour a few wines, beers and ciders, just in case you have a thirst that can’t be quenched by a thick shake or soda. Ready to check ‘em out and wrap your hands around one of those burgers? You’ll find Burger Project at 279 Grey Street, South Bank, with a second Brisbane venue set to open in the CBD in the coming months! Words by Ranyhyn Akui Image credit: @dishin_itout
