Brisbane’s favourite Asian flavours come to South Brisbane

Can’t never get enough of spicy, fresh Asian flavours? And punchy cocktails? One of Brisbane’s most lauded chefs has taken the amazing experience of Madame Wu and doubled the awesome. That’s right, TWO LEVELS. Chu The Phat is the latest opening in the thriving South Brisbane dining precinct, headed up by Madame Wu Executive Chef Brendan Barker, and trust us, it’s gonna be ah-maze-zing. The delicious South East Asian flavours familiar to Madame Wu diners have been reinterpreted for more casual dining (you can even takeaway – perfect for nights of Netflix on the couch!) that will put your usual Asian takeaways to shame. Think two floors of street art, exposed brick, and a bar that’s worth a visit in itself, you’re about to see the a whole lot of Instagram selfies up in hurr! When you wander down to the South Brisbane location, right near Fish Lane favourites Maker and La Lune Wine Co, you’ll spot the chefs whipping up everything from stir fried spanner crab omelette to the heavenly fluffy steamed pork buns. Pop in for a quick stir fry for a work day lunch, or if you have the time sit back and try the banquet where you’ll tour some of the most adventurous bites on the menu like the smoked beef tongue – perfect for special occasions or when you really want to show your date they made the right choice swiping right! If you’re after something to snack on while you enjoy great company and even greater drinks there are plenty of moreish morsels like crispy red fried pigs tail’s (sounds scary at first, but trust us!) and Chu The Phat’s genius interpretation of a Chiko spring roll. We’re #obsessed with the must-try Nanna Anna’s Chilli Chicken – this spicy delight ain’t nothing like our grandmas made! The very punny cocktail menu offers up classic drinks with Asian twists including hints of chilli, lychee, and lime. Finally a cocktail menu that gives us an opportunity to ask a cutie at the bar – “Chu Come Here Often?” We were surprised and delighted when we spotted our OG fave Nutella on the drinks list – in the delicious The Chusen One espresso martini! Nutella and espresso martinis together at last… a match made in heaven. This Fish Lane venue is definitely going to start some conversations and we are definitely ready to Chu The Phat.
