The good ol’ bed socks have re-emerged from the bottom of our drawers, because winter is well and truly here – well, three to four weeks of it at least (let’s not kid ourselves). There’s simply nothing better than waking up on a chilly morning, chucking on a baggy jumper and tights (you can totally wear them as pants in winter), trekking down to your favourite café and starting the day by stuffing your face hole with a hearty, soul-warming breakfast. And because we feel you totally dig what we are going on about, we have put together a brrrrrrr-illiant list of Brisbane’s best winter breakfasts for you so you can minimise those frustrating “no – you pick” conversations you are likely to have with your pals/other halves when deciding where to go. Seven South | Yeronga If you are yet to visit this vibing suburban gem, it’s time. With a young chef the kitchen who trained at E’cco Bistro, each of their dishes are delicious and bursting with flavour. Our top pick for this weather is the potato and parmesan hotcakes, served with avocado aioli, poached eggs, pumpkin hummus and bacon. NB: We also like to add haloumi and sausage – just because. Rogue Bar & Bistro | Newstead The talented team at Rogue recently launched their new winter brekky menu, and as usual, our jaw is on the ground. For anyone after some sugar to sweeten their morning, you won’t be able to go past their fluffy blueberry pancakes with salted caramel sauce and candied popcorn. Try getting rid of THAT image from your head for the rest of the day. Billykart | West End Never heard of congee? Here’s your chance to try the savoury porridge in the best way possible: Billykart’s next level spanner crab and scallop congee. We hear what you are worried about, but don’t you worry, this massive bowl of comfort food is definitely Instagram-able with thanks to a garnish of baby herbs, fine chilli, and shallots on top. My Mistress | Clayfield The dish on our minds for winter here is a no brainer. Their Head Mistress, a rich and spice bowl of baked eggs with house made spiced beans, chorizo, sour cream and cheesy bread takes the cake! Start an affair with it if you dare. winter breakfasts reverends Reverends | Fortitude Valley Didn’t know the Valley’s favourite coffee spot did breakfast? You do now, and you should be racing in for their mushroom bowl. With cauliflower béchamel, potato hash cakes and snow pea tendrils, it’ll have you wanting vegetables for breakfast every morning. Coffee Anthology | CBD Not only do these guys serve damn good liquid gold (coffee) to kick start your day, they nail their 63-degree eggs to a tee. We guarantee a big double tap spree on those broken oozy egg-yolk Instagram photos. For a good hearty meal, try the pulled pork shoulder eggs Benedict. Smoked Paprika | Bardon Because breakfast is totally the most important meal of the day, this egg-cellent cosy cafe does it all day. For the chilly weather, we’re putting our hands up for their famous Smoked Paprika Breakfast – spiced beef on Turkish bread with poached eggs, hollandaise, rocket, *breathe*, roasted tomatoes and grilled haloumi. Republic Coffee Traders | East Brisbane Remember how good crumpets loaded with honey was when you were a kid? Well Republic Coffee Traders have stepped them up a notch, piling housemade spelt crumpets with grilled pear, coffee cream and honeycomb. Isn’t #adulting delicious?
