Brisbane’s best pubs to throw a party in

  • Food & Booze
Parties at pubs can go one of two ways – BEST NIGHT EVER or something you’d rather forget thanks to sticky floors, soggy party food and an impromptu speech from your Uncle Dave that included way too many inappropriate innuendos. While we can’t help with the unwanted speeches, we can suggest a few pubs where you can throw a party that will have your guests raving long after the last drink has been poured. Pig ‘N’ Whistle | West End Forget what you thought you knew about pubs – West End’s sophisticated Pig ‘N’ Whistle will win over even the snobbiest friend on your invite list. Whether you’re after bright and airy, or romantic and intimate, this venue has the ability to transform itself to suit any vibe. Book out the al fresco garden bar under the vertical green walls for a cocktail soiree or gather your nearest and dearest for a group dinner overlooking the wine cellar and let the culinary team in the kitchen take care of every delicious detail. The Phoenix Lounge | Bracken Ridge North-siders rejoice – you don’t need to trek into the city to find the perfect bar lounge experience. It may surprise you, but inside the Bracken Ridge tavern is a sophisticated haven of cosy lounges and quirky cocktails: The Phoenix Lounge. Book out one of the airy booths for up to 15 people and nibble bites like buffalo wings and pulled pork sliders, or nab yourself The Birds Nest, a private lounge for you and 40 of your closest friends. The Pineapple Hotel | Kangaroo Point Thought there was no such thing as a pub function space with character? Think again. From the heritage listed Plantation Room surrounded by wide verandas to the Park Bar overlooking the wide open green space next door, The Pineapple Hotel’s function rooms are anything but bland. Even the menus will grab your attention, at least while you try to decide whether to go with scrumptious canapés, a gourmet BBQ or 3 courses of dishes like tempura zucchini flowers and herb crusted lamb rack. The Fox Hotel | South Brisbane Whatever kind of party you want, The Fox can do it. You want a glam cocktail soiree with a 1920s theme? They’ve got a room for it. You want a launch party for your latest fashion collection? They’ll even find you a DJ. Want to dance the night away on a rooftop with a view? They’ve got a cocktail list that will get everyone grooving up on Dandys Rooftop. Frankly, if The Fox can’t handle it, it’s not worth having. The Alliance Hotel |Spring Hill Sure, the term ‘gastropub’ may warrant an explanation to any party guests that don’t stray from a chicken parmy when dining out, but trust us, they’ll be ever so grateful for the introduction. The Alliance Hotel doesn’t just dish up drool-worthy pub food, they’ve also got some rustic function spaces that will have you wanting to plan a party just for the hell of it – we’re already imagining a winter themed shindig in the Chalet Bar, complete with a stone fireplace and roast suckling pig. Finn McCool’s | Fortitude Valley You won’t need the luck of the Irish to have a good time at this Valley spot, the plentiful beers and rousing live tunes will get you there all on their own! Boy’s night will be a whole lot classier (at least for the first hour or so) in Finn’s Cave, a private spot where you can catch a game on your very own big screen while you feast on pizzas and Guinness. But don’t worry, mixed company is taken care of in The Causeway Lounge or Laneway, where the old world charm is topped only by the epic cocktail list. The Wickham | Fortitude Valley When it comes to iconic Brisbane spots, can you really go past The Wickham? The answer is no, and with their new garden-inspired function spaces, it’s better than ever before. Just like you, The Wickham keeps getting better with age, and a quirky gathering in the garden bar, terrace or private fairy light lit container lounge will have you thinking you’re not in a pub at all. Bonus, you can get a platter of Donut Boyz doughnuts – if that’s not a valid reason to throw a party, we don’t know what is. The Royal | Nundah ‘Woodsy-chic’ is how this spot describes its venue styling – and turns out, it makes for a pretty good back drop to a party. More glam than you thought possible at a pub in the ‘burbs, you’ll be feeling cosy in whichever function space you opt for – and not just because you’re chowing down on scrumptious pizzas and sipping espresso martinis. Don’t fret if Uncle Dave’s invitation gets ‘lost in the mail’, your BEST NIGHT EVER at Brisbane’s best pub function spaces awaits. Words by Georgia Tyler
