Brisbane’s best Korean BBQ

  • Food & Booze
We’ve all sat by a sushi train watching the booth next to us snap up that one roll we’d been eyeing off. We’ve all had cooked egg thrown at our face and land on the floor at teppanyaki. But Korean BBQ? It’s probably one of the lesser-known Asian style dining scenes with a DIY twist. ‘Why would I want to go out and cook my own food?’ we hear you ask. Because it’s damn delicious, you can cook your meat just how you like it (mmmm, crispy) and you get miso soup into the bargain, that’s why! To help you properly appreciate the delights of Korean BBQ, we’ve scoured Brisbane to find the ultimate gems. Sunny Seoul | Sunnybank Sunnybank is a goldmine for Korean BBQ (big shock there). So of course it was our number one go to when searching for the best Korean BBQ in Brisbane and we reckon Sunny Seoul has hit the spot and hit it good. The plates are piled high with marinated meats from beef to scallops and you can also get some epic sides. Kimchi pancake anyone? A word of warning though: forget stretchy pants. Wear pants one size up because there is no chance you will leave here hungry. Maru Korean BBQ | Brisbane CBD We headed to the very centre to give Maru a whirl and wow-za they delivered. Each table has an in-built BBQ for you to grill away to your heart’s content and they offer plenty of tasty, tender marinated meats that will make your mouth water as you wait for them to BBQ to perfection. Oh yeah, did we mention Korean BBQ pork belly? Now we have. Get on it. Chingu | Fortitude Valley Walk past Chinatown’s Chingu Korean BBQ on your way to elsewhere and you’ll find yourself tempted in by the smells of grilled meat wafting out the door. Including the delicious aroma of pork belly sizzling away to juicy perfection. The beef tongue might not be so tempting, but coriander marinated calamari, sweet and soy beef and plenty of vegetables sure are! That and the sweet plum wine you can get to down it with. shutterstock_111153605Hanwoori | Brisbane CBD Grab your closest pals, because Hanwoori has oodles of space for you and your BBQ lovin’ friends to get your grill on. Along with classic, fresh meats to BBQ and savour, Hanwoori also dishes up plenty of simple sides to satisfy your kimchi cravings. The best part? Hanwoori is all buffet. Yep, you get to pick out your meats and BBQ them yourself, too. Talk about the ultimate DIY. Hong Depot | South Brisbane Sure you have your usual marinated meat. But why not lash out and add a little oomph to your BBQ? Hong Depot offer up beef bulgogi with both a normal or spicy option. Be daring, choose spicy! Get it as a part of the all-you-can-eat meat lover package along with pork rib and spicy pork and you’ll be waddling out the door. Unlimited meat people, UNLIMITED MEAT. Jako Japanese and Korean Restaurant | Toowong West-siders rejoice! Jako offer one killer BBQ for you to grill your heart away.
