Brisbane's Best Bowls Clubs

Blue skies. Crisp, green lawns. Cold, gold beer. If this isn’t living Barry, I don’t know what is. Not just for seniors in too short pants, lawn bowls is for everyone – young and old.

From their super cheap beer specials (hello pots), meat raffles and quality parmies (say parma and you’re dead to us) the humble bowls club will always have a very special place in our hearts. We’ve rounded up our faves to pass on the tradition.

Let’s start with the essentials – beer. Located between the Toowong Shopping Centre and UQ, the club knows to get the student punters in, you’ve gotta have some of that sweet, cheap beer and you can expect to pick up a pot of the good stuff for less than a coffee. Interested in actually throwing around the ol’ bowl? Schedule in a Thursday night spin, order a $10 pizza and get barefoot bowls for free. WINNING.

Home of gigs, smooth, smooth greens and some of the best dang dinner specials this side of 1986, Greenslopes Bowls Club is the jewel of the south side. Get stuck into schnittys, wings and beer battered fish with chips and salad for just $10 Tuesday-Friday, or splash a bit of cash and get stuck into a bowl of fettuccine Cabonara or Napoli.

Consider yourself a bright spark? Roll into the riverside club on Wednesdays from 6.30pm for FREE trivia, cheap frothy boys and bowl-o faves including nachos, chippies and the illustrious parmie. Grab a cheeky glass of vino and a seat next to the river. Make sure you wave to the ferry – people LOVE that.

Whether you’re a regular cracker jack or just here for the beer (fair), Windsor is ideal for catchups with mates, functions with the fam (hello dream wedding) or to grab a cheap and cheerful dinner on a Friday night. Grab the Hawaiian chicken parmie and face the wrath of all the pineapple haters, or keep it classic with fillet steak and mushroom sauce.

We’ve got two words for you. UV LIGHTS. Say no more fam. Coorparoo is the only bowls club in Australia with a FULL RINK OF UV LIGHTS so you can play neon glow balls. If you’ve ever needed an excuse to wear your whites, this is it. There’s also Thursday night trivia and killer Sunday sessions.

Bowl early, bowl often and stay hydrated – you can afford to with beers this cheap.
