Brisbane’s best avocado breakfasts: Time to guac 'n' roll

The ears of any breakfast fanatic will undoubtedly prick at the words “avocado toast.” The staple, the breakfast champion, the ultimate plate. Even the eggs benny worshippers will admit that when sinking one’s teeth into a luscious avocado smash, followed by the heavenly crush of sourdough, you feel like the first man stepping on the moon – pretty bloomin’ excited. We don’t mean to implement an avocado hierarchy, but we definitely have an avo a-list. Check them out below: South Side Tea Room | Morningside Brisbane’s favourite indie band, The Grates, fell in love with food. Their relationship was moving forward rapidly, with passion and avocado. On one fine day, Grates fell pregnant with possibility. They made a child – called the South Side Tea Room. Apart from their buzzing atmosphere and spot-on coffee, we are Grate-ful for their flawless avocado smash on sourdough with bruschetta and lemon. Plum Tucker | Red Hill One might call the avocado situation at Plum Tucker is an overachievement. We call it avo-ecstasy. Boasting a holy 6 variations of avocado toast on their brekky menu, you can lose yourself in the maze of green toasty heaven. Veer toward a savoury twist on the classic with an avocado, organic feta, smoked salmon and rocket, or indulge your sweet tooth with an avocado, strawberry, feta and roasted pistachio and honey concoction. All served on organic sourdough. All equally fantastic. There was no doubt that Plum Tucker’s variety of avo on toast was going on our list for best breakfast in Brisbane! Pablo | New Farm Pablo takes the avo classic to a new level. A level that will have your tastebuds fan-girling for an entire day afterwards. Their seasoned avo sits on a sourdough throne, and is bathed in basil, mango and tomato salsa, grilled haloumi, pink lake salt and Maleny avocado oil. Oh my! Lady Marmalade | Stones Corner It has the smooth low-key groove-vibe of Melbourne. It has the love affair and life of Brisbane. It has mouthwatering slow roasted tomato decked on the top of a delicious herbed avocado mash. Is there anything this funky food house doesn’t have? Sourced Grocer | Teneriffe This local deli doubles as a fool-proof health food cafe, stretching its broccoli limbs beyond the realms of ‘good-tasting.’ With a wholesome menu, a unique and home-like vibe and beautiful staff, we never miss an opportunity to dine at our favourite health hub. Needless to say, their avocado smash packs a punch. Showered with labna, drizzled in quality oil and flaked with herbs, you just can’t miss this avo hit. Although we like our avocados green, that’s not how we like our friends. Don’t go green with foodie jealousy – try these smashing smashes out for yourself. Words by Julia Hulbert
