Word on the street: foodie news

Just fondue it.

Whether you’re splurging on fondue for two with your S.O., looking for foodie markets to take the family to, or you’re chasing a midweek burger and brew, Brisbane’s got you covered this week!

W Brisbane is asking one of the world’s hardest questions… Chocolate or cheese? Their fondue special, I’m Fondue of You is returning from July 17, with your choice of decadent Valrhona chocolate fondue, or gooey Woombye triple cream brie. For you savoury-lovers out there, your cheesy pot comes with lavosh, mushrooms, apricots, figs and charcoal breadsticks, while the sweet option includes marshmallows, strawberries, honeycomb, pancakes and croissants for your dipping pleasure. This wintery treat will be available every Friday, Saturday and Sunday from July 17 to September 20 at W Brisbane’s Living Room Bar. Call 3556 8888 to book, or email bfreservations.wbrisbane@whotels.com

We have word of a hot new eatery coming to the Valley, taking over the spot formerly occupied by Longtime. Equal parts sophisticated and chilled-out, Eterna will showcase authentic Roman recipes in a setting overflowing with cool New York vibes. Set to be a late-night hotspot, Eterna will be all about pasta, snacks, dirty martinis, and vino when its door open on Thursday, July 30, so stay tuned!

There are four tasty specials coming out of burger legends Fritzenberger this week, including $10 burgers every Monday, and 2-for-1 burgers on Tuesdays. For those not in the mood for a juicy burg (fools!), you can get your hands dirty with 50c wings on Wednesdays, and between 3 pm-6 pm on weekdays, nab a local craft beer and four wings for just a fiver! To redeem these insane offers, just download the Fritzenberger app, and scroll your way to their Caxton St or Wilston venues.

Spreading joy and Christmas cheer a little early, Carseldine Markets will be celebrating Christmas in July with a very special pop-up market next Saturday, July 25! You can expect plenty of family fun, a variety of stalls, and super tasty eats!

The Cereal for Coffee event is back for another year–aiming to feed disadvantaged school kids and support local businesses on August 11. All you have to do is visit a participating café, donate a box of cereal, and purchase a cuppa! It’s not that hard, and you’ve just provided a hungry child with breakfast, supported a local business, AND nabbed a perfect flat white. Talk about a hat-trick. Visit here to see which legendary cafés are taking part, or if you’re in charge of a café–register here

Another week, another delicious bake-at-home cookie pie from the team at Gelato Messina. After their choc-chip, red velvet and Nutella flavoured treats in the past, Messina has just launched a peanut butter and jelly cookie pie, that has us feeling some kind of way. Jump online to preorder yours here…These delicious monstrosities are available for pick up between July 17 and July 19, and will go perfectly with a fat tub of vanilla gelato.

Christmas (in July) has come early!
