From gourmet travels to face-stuffingly-good gelato, this week’s foodie news is a bit of a wild ride. Strap in, Brisbane! 

With restrictions lifting and the prospect of travel (and holidays!) on the horizon, Visit Sunshine Coast is encouraging us inner-city bumpkins to pack the car, fill up the tank, and head to the Sunny Coast. While we could talk all day about the glorious beaches, the whale watching, parks and tours, we’re putting a foodie spin on this one. Spicers Tamarind is nestled in beautiful Maleny and boasts the award-winning fine diner The Tamarind, whilst Spicers Clovelly Estate’s The Long Apron is the refined European eatery of your dreams. Oh, and while you’re up the coast, be sure to visit Maleny’s Brouhaha Brewery, which is reopening on Friday, June 12.  Don’t be a drag, just be a queen and head to the iconic The Wickham Hotel as the team officially re-opens their garden bar and pop-up bottle shop. Famous among the LGBTQIA+ community of Brisbane and beyond, The Wickham is welcoming its thirsty sisters into the garden Thursday-Sunday, 4 pm-midnight, with the bottle shop open Thursday-Saturday, 4 pm-8 pm. Better yet, the bottle shop is managed by The Wickham’s very own resident queen, Miss IKEA Karr on Friday evenings. Our longest “yas Queen” ever. 

You might want to stop scrolling for this one, Brisbane. Launching this week is Gelatissimo’s deluxe range, featuring epically sweet flavours like raspberry chocolate fudge and frosted cinnamon scroll. Yep, we’re also drooling at the sound of that frosted cinnamon scroll gelato–it’s complete with cinnamon, vanilla and cream cheese gelato, with chunks of soft cinnamon scrolls and topped with cream cheese icing, with the scrolls and icing made by Sonoma Baking Company.

We’ve found what might be possibly the cutest date idea, courtesy of The Westin Brisbane. Today they’ve announced their new hampers and platters, full to the brim with tasty artisan produce, perfect to take along to the nearby Botanic Gardens. The range starts with the signature gourmet picnic hamper, full of seasonal fruits, vegetables and gourmet chocolates because #balance. The gourmet picnic hamper is complete with a range of cheeses, charcuterie, artisan breads, salad, sandwiches, and sweet treats. The one we have our eyes on, though, is the seafood on ice platter, overflowing with oysters, scallops, prawns, crab, bugs, and condiments. Each package can be upgraded with a hand-picked bottle of wine, courtesy of The Westin Brisbane’s in-house sommelier. Cheers to that.
