Word on the street: foodie news

Fact: good days start with a blissful brunch and end with a boozy dessert cocktail.

Brisbane has added a cosy new cafe to its repertoire, with Bear Boy Espresso opening shop over the weekend. With an established presence on the Gold Coast, the Bear Boy gang ventured north to open their Windsor digs within the new Colwill Place development, fitted out with an epic marble counter, coral features, and lots of curves. Both their coffee and breaky offerings get the thumbs up from us–particularly that fried chicken waffle Benedict. Drool.

Is it just us, or are Aussie distillers just endlessly creative when it comes to flavoured spirits? We’re always excited to see what’s popping up next, and we’ve just found something that will make you want to *add to cart.* The team at Burleigh’s Wildflower Gin have fast become Aussie legends, with the launch of a lamington flavoured vodka! Coconutty, chocolatey, and with subtle notes of strawberries, the drop is best served neat, on the rocks, with soda, or even mixed into a cheeky dessert cocktail! The release of the batch is limited to 150 bottles–so get in quick here.

Emporium Hotel South Bank’s Piano Bar is celebrating the Lunar New Year on Friday, February 12 with a celebration of bottomless dumplings and cocktails! Kicking off at 6.30 pm, get set for two hours of unlimited xiao long bao, siu mai, har gao, and more as you sip on Tsingtao lagers, lychee martinis and a limited-edition Shieh Shieh martini. The experience is $70 per person, and reservations can be made here

Last week we shared the news of a new Botanica Real Foods coming to Hawthorne, and today we’re backing it up with word of a neighbouring doughnut slinger! That’s right, Nodo is set to open another cafe in the new southside foodie hub, joining Botanica, Ze Pickle, and Paper Cup Coffee Co! Expect all-day cafe eats, GF goodies, specialty coffee, and that signature Nodo hospitality when the new store opens in April.

There’s never a bad time for garden parties, Sunday sessions and gin, and Byblos has joined forces with Fever Tree to bring us the holy trinity until the end of summer! Every Sunday from 3 pm till late, head over to Byblos’ stunning riverside bar and enjoy $12 G&Ts, live DJs, summer vibes, and Byblos’ famous Mediterranean eats. To secure a table, reach out to the team via events@byblosbar.com.au or give them a buzz on 3268 1998. Bottoms up!

Thanks for all the tasty times, January!
