It’s been a weird start to a likely super-weird year, but Brisbane’s food and booze scene is pulling through with news of exciting new venues, epic pop-ups, and summery specials. 

As these summer days continue to hit 30 degrees plus, our hankering for a frozen margarita just gets stronger and stronger. Luckily our favourite ‘rita slinger El Camino Cantina is taking us on a refreshing trip down memory lane with its Retro Rita series! Take your pick of four funky flavours inspired by iconic Aussie treats including The Cottee, The Vovo, Fruit Tingle and Cruisy Guava–the best Cruiser flavour of all (don’t @ us). 

While we’re on the topic of summer, suburban seafood spot One Fish Two Fish is bringing back their famed Oyster Frenzy menu for the weekend of January 22-24! Simply sit back and slurp up course after course of stunning oysters served in a range of tasty ways, from natural to squid-ink tempura battered, three-cheese baked, dressed with limoncello and finger-lime caviar and more! Available across four seatings (two lunch, two dinner) for the entire weekend, the Oyster Frenzy menu is selling out fast… book your spot here

Late in 2020 we brought you news of La Costa–a four-in-one mega-venue from the brains behind Salt Meats Cheese, Eterna and Sydney’s Maybe Sammy. After La Costa and Cielo Rooftop opened their doors in December, it was only a matter of time before another one of the stunning venues joined the party… introducing La Valle! Tucked away in Fortitude Valley’s Albert Street, La Valle is opening its doors on Friday, January 15… Think laneway bar with a wine list of 200-odd European and Aussie drops, tasty Italian bites, 80s and 90s tunes, and its own bottleshop in tow. 

After the huge (like, huge) success of Agnes in 2020, the dream team of Frank Li, Ty Simon and Ben Williamson are back with something just as exciting on the cards in 2021… Bianca is coming to James Street in early March, taking over the space formerly occupied by Beaux Rumble on the corner of Ada Lane. Named after Ty’s partner who hails from Milan, Bianca’s menu will focus on classic Italian flavours with an emphasis on local produce. Expect sophisticated snacks and antipasti alongside a handful of pastas and mains, with a twin-chamber soft-serve gelato machine taking care of dessert. We’ll bring you more on Bianca very soon! 

Until the end of the month, foodies can daytrip to the Amalfi Coast without leaving Brisbane, thanks to Kingsley’s Italian Staycation pop-up! With two tasty dining options including an impressive antipasti platter and Quincy seltzer for two, or a classy three-course menu of Italian delights alongside a drink on arrival, the pop-up oozes summer vibes and European opulence. It seems Eagle Street Pier is the place to be this summer, as The Bavarian gets set to sling $20 cocktail jugs every Sunday! Enjoy fruity flavours like lychee paradise, strawberry margarita, elderflower garden and apple-tini for just 20 bucks all day every Sunday! You know where to find us…
