The times, they are a-tasty.

Well, summer has certainly made a loud entrance. We find the best way to beat the heat this silly season is fresh breakies, afternoon cocktails, and plenty of gelato scoops. Lucky for you… 

One of our favourite cafes in town, Miss Jones, has recently undergone a makeover and the results are pretty impressive! The new-look venue is even lighter and breezier than before, and the fresh breaky menu is something to behold. If you’re feeling naughty you can wrap your lips around a decadent strawberry and cream hot cake, while the smashed avo with roasted beetroot hummus and New York rye is all things nice. 

There’s a new taco spot coming in 2021 to tantalize your taste buds, with the help of a few familiar faces! American low-and-slow pitmasters Barbecue Mafia are bringing their expertise (and meat!) to Mt Gravatt eatery Cenzo’s Café + Bar every Thursday, Friday and Saturday night, for tasty pop-up South Austin. Expect Tex-Mex cranked up a notch, with a smokey take on classics like al pastor, carnitas, and birria, alongside margaritas and other cocktails from the Cenzo’s bar team.

From the award-winning team behind Sydney’s Maybe Sammy and the folks at Eterna comes La Costa–a four-in-one marvel taking over the building formerly home to Foresters Restaurant and Altitude Bar on Brunswick Street. The first two venues within La Costa are set to open this Friday, December 11–ground-level La Costa Bar and rooftop bar Cielo, both with an emphasis on fresh bites, cocktails, and warm hospitality.

This week we’ve also been delivered the exciting news of SCOOP!, a three-day dessert and entertainment extravaganza coming to HOTA on January 15, 16, and 17. Enjoy world-class performers, acrobats, and musicians before getting carried away in the ice cream village with scoops from the South East’s tastiest vendors. When they’re not whipping up epic gelato-filled panettones (and running incredible giveaways) the sweet team at La Macelleria are whipping up a range of Christmas-ready treats! We’re talking single portion Christmas baubles (available in-store at the Teneriffe location) and family-sized Christmas tree cakes and gelato-filled yule logs! Moorooka eatery Todd & Pup has recently launched an impressive summer menu, with breakfast plates worth getting out of bed for and a drool-worthy burger range. In the AM, we’re opting for the modern take on a croque Monsieur avocat, the salt and vinegar hasselback hash and the key lime puffed pancake, while the Big Boy fried chicken burger is a must-try at lunchtime. 

Sorry, but we’re already getting carried away thinking about those birria tacos…
