Word on the street: foodie news

This week we’re dining finely on a budget…

There’s plenty of new flavours and affordable treats to tempt your tastebuds this week, so let’s get to it!

It’s been six sweet years since nodo came rolling into our lives, whipping up gluten-free delights that satisfy even the most staunch wheat lovers. nodo has grown and grown and now boasts permanent locations in Newstead, Camp Hill, South Bank and Brisbane City, as well as pop-up kiosks at Westfield Carindale and Chermside, and is celebrating its sixth birthday in style! Stop by your closest nodo on Wednesday, November 18, and you’ll score a doughnut and regular coffee for just $6 (which means the coffee is practically free!). Our recc? Their birthday cake flavour. Heart eyes.

We know you love free stuff, and we’re here with another sweet treat for you to lick up! Gelato god La Macelleria is offering a festive prize to one lucky dessert-lover just in time for Christmas… a mega gelato-filled panettone! Simply head in to your local La Macelleria gelateria, grab a scoop of gelato or sorbet (or both), make sure you’re following La Macelleria’s Insta and share a snap with the hashtag #lovelamacelleria. Keep your eyes peeled for the winner to be announced on December 14… But if you missed out you can still grab a panettone here

In Japanese, Motto Motto translates to “more more,” which is exactly what you’ll be saying when you get your hands on one of their limited edition Moreton Bay bug rolls. Hitting the menu at all Motto Motto stores from Wednesday, November 18, the indulgent rolls will be loaded up with Moreton Bay bug, Japanese yuzu dressing, Australian avocado, shallots and black fish roe. Coming in at just $15 a roll, these beauties won’t be around forever, so get moving!

Since opening earlier this year, Eterna has made a name for itself for its Roman-style late-night eats. Adding a new string to its already impressive bow, Eterna is now offering an aperitivo hour between 5 pm and 7 pm on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday evenings, aptly named Eter-mini. Enjoy a half-sized cocktail and small bite for just ten bucks, with tasty options like red snapper croquette with roasted capscium sauce, and Tanqueray 50/50 martinis.

Looking to even out all the donuts, gelato, bug rolls, and cocktails you’ve smashed? Healthy lunch spot Greenstreat has just opened its doors on Adelaide Street, offering the city crowd a mean and green fast-food option. Simply choose from 13 menu options (all under $15) to enjoy in a bowl or burrito, and stroll back to your desk feeling #fitspo AF. Better yet, the folks at Greenstreat are hosting an official launch week with $10 bowls on Wednesday, November 25 until Friday, November 27!

And just like a nodo doughnut, we’ve come full circle.
