Well. That was a week.
The news coming out of Brisbane’s food scene this week tells the tale of wine slinging mavericks, innovative burgers, Balinese pop-ups, and more.
Last night, the Wineslinger Awards crowned its 2020 trophy winners, with Brisbane’s own Snack Man taking out the ‘Maverick’ trophy! The voting panel of over 100 Australian winemakers, sommeliers, and journalists recognised the innovative way in which Snack Man pushed the boundaries of possibility in a year that was, frankly, nearly impossible. Snack Man is joined in the Wineslinger Awards’ Top 50 Wine Venues by fellow Brisbanites La Lune Wine Co., Maeve Wine, La Lupa, Cru Bar + Cellar.
Fritzenberger has this week launched its new Korean-inspired burger for their Fritzen month campaign. The Kimcheese Burger is loaded up with a grass-fed beef patty, Swiss cheese, grilled Spanish onion, pickles, and Korean chilli sauce. The epic creation is available for dine-in or takeaway for the next four weeks at Fritzenberger’s South Bank, Wilston and Petrie Terrace locations.
Free coffee. Great, just checking you’re still there! The legends at Industry Beans are in fact giving away free coffee to every first-time user of their app in the form of a $5 welcome gift, and running a competition for five lucky winners to win free coffee for a year! All you have to do is download and use the Industry Beans app during November–either at their iconic Newstead site, or their Adelaide Street spot that opened just this week–to go in the running to win 365 cups of joe.
For our bayside babes (and anyone who enjoys beer), we have some exciting news for you! Wynnum will score its own craft brewery in December when Hudson Brewing opens its doors on Gibbs Street! Hudson Brewing’s 50-seat taproom will quickly become a local favourite for those wishing to sip on pale ales, IPAs, lagers, session ales and sours, and there will be rotating food trucks coming to play every Friday and Saturday. Stay tuned for more!
And finally, you can now head straight to Bali without leaving Brisbane at W Brisbane’s It’s a Bali vibe pop-up at the Wet Deck! From Thursday, November 12 until Sunday, December 20, the Wet Deck will be decked out with swinging hammocks, swaying palm trees, lanterns, umbrellas, and bean bags, with a new menu featuring yummies like Sumatran beef rendang and kung pao chicken to enjoy poolside or on floating trays. You can expect cocktails, live music, a sarong stall, morning yoga, Balinese spa treatments, and more at the exciting pop-up!
