Word on the street: foodie news

Brissy, you’ve done it again.

This week we’re bringing you the tasty news of a gourmet collab, a trendy new bar, DIY Vietnamese meal kits delivered straight to your door, and a few other treats…

When two of Brisbane’s hospitality heavy-hitters join forces, you know it’s going to be good! The Tivoli has this week welcomed City Winery on board as its exclusive hospitality partner, adding a delicious new element to your next event at the Tiv! Expect a bar menu featuring crispy octopus with spiced carrot ketchup, slow-cooked beef rib with housemade flatbread, pickles and beetroot hummus, and smoked pumpkin and ricotta doughnuts.

Newstead is getting an impressive new bar tomorrow when Commercial Road Public Bar opens its doors. A tribute to New York City of the late ‘80s, the colourful bar is decked out with eccentric art, neon lights, and a healthy sprinkle of glitter. In terms of food, things lean towards Italian, with pizzas, hand-tied burrata, wagyu bresaola, white anchovies with gremolata, and more. Drinkers can get around an impressive wine list with a focus on organic drops, a range of craft beers, and CO2-charged cocktails.

One Fish Two Fish is going all-out this Lobster Day, serving up a classic lobster bisque with a pastry disc, followed by a brioche roll with lobster, sriracha mayo and vibrant scampi caviar, and grilled western rock lobster on house-made tagliatelle with tarragon butter to finish. The Lobster Day menu is $79pp, and will be available for dinner from 5 pm on Wednesday, September 23 and Thursday 24, and for lunch on Friday, September 25–head here to make your booking.

We’re lovers of Vietnamese cuisine, and a good pho is hard to beat. Roll’d is making it even easier to get our pho phix, with their new range of DIY pho kits! With four different flavours of pho ranging from the OG classic beef to a bún bò huế, bánh canh cua, and mì tôm thịt, the kits come with pre-portioned ingredients and a QR code taking you to a cooking demonstration. Nab yours from your local Roll’d store, or have it delivered straight to your door via contactless delivery

Now, have you got Sunday plans? Well, you do now. Milton Markets Seasonal Flavours is back, celebrating all things spring this Sunday, 13 September from 6 am ‘til midday. Combining forces with Love Handmade Markets, this pop-up spring fling will have all the blooms, artisan goods, live entertainment and tasty eats you could ever want!

As we edge towards those hotter months–or as we like to call it, cold brew season–the talented crew at Industry Beans have us covered with their newly dropped ready-to-drink cans of Single Origin cold brew, and sparkling single origin cold brew. Their first limited-release batch is made using Industry Beans’ single-origin coffees–Tirra Estate from the San Marcos district of Costa Rica, and is available in by the 4-pack or carton here

If the rest of spring is this tasty, bring it on!
