Brisbane Bucket List | May

  • Food & Booze
Hello autumn! Sure, summer has already been over for a month but it’s taken a while for the weather to catch up. It’s finally jacket weather, which for us only means one thing – more layers to cover up our impending food baby! We’ve put our wanna-be bikini bodies on the line to bring you May’s tastiest eats. #1 Vietnamese taco | Banoi | Bowen Hills Melbourne favourite Banoi has finally hit Brisbane – on Bowen Hill’s King Street nonetheless! You’re gonna love everything Pho-sho, but our pick is the Vietnamese taco. Think a bao bun with fillings like pork belly or soft shell crab – you won’t just stop at one! #2 Nutella espresso martini | Chu The Phat | South Brisbane While we’ve been preparing our stomachs for the opening of Chu The Phat for some time (guys – it’s going to be two levels of Asian street food awesomeness!), the team have dropped a new tasty bombshell. Nutella and espresso martinis… together at last! Just try and stop after one, we dare you. #3 Deathproof cocktail | Deathproof | New Farm Brunswick Street’s latest addition, Deathproof Bar, is certainly alive and kickin’. Try and drag your eyes away from the endless tattoos, bearded men and graffiti walls and direct your focus to the bar, where you will find their namesake cocktail – The Deathproof – awaiting your consumption. Combining a tiki-style mix of Sailor Jerry’s and Plantation rums, apricot liqueur, lemon, pineapple and apple juice, bitters and cinnamon syrup – all served up in their famous SKULL GLASS! #4 Poke bowls | Miss Bliss Pantry | New Farm No, it’s got nothing to do with Pokemon, but you’re about to see pokē bowls everywhere! This traditional Hawaiian dish has been remixed by Miss Bliss’ all new space. Think miso-seared salmon, avocado, wasabi peas, veggies and pickled ginger served up as a little bowl of heaven. Mi-so excited to have one! #5 12 Hour Pulled Pork Bagel | NYC Bagel Deli | West End With more than 15 bagels on the menu it’s hard to choose just one bagel from NYC Bagel Deli, but time and time again we go back to the juicy 12 hour pulled pork bagel. Topped with Swiss cheese, pickles, and apple slaw it’s 12 hours of meaty goodness for just 12 bucks #winning #6 Chill fries with pulled beef | Big Roddy’s Rippin’ Rib Shack | South Brisbane Summer is over so let’s say goodbye to those summer bods! When it comes to comfort food there’s nothing better than chilli cheese fries, and Roddy’s Ribs are the masters of meat. Think pulled beef, oozing cheese sauce, and crispy hot fries (it’s the ultimate cheat meal!) #7 Charcuterie | Vaquero | Albion We crown Vaquero king of charcuterie. You can pick and mix your own plates, but we recommending ordering the charcuterie, house bread, and pickles for 2, 4, or 8 for the ultimate feast of cheeses, cured meats, and baguettes baked daily in house. #8 Raw Menu | Bacchus | South Bank While usually our winter cravings sit comfortably at the bottle of a giant bowl of warming ramen, Bacchus’s new Raw + Cured menu has stolen our hearts and stomachs this season. Featuring drool-worthy eats like lightly poached oysters served with finger limes and dill atop smoking liquid nitrogen, and beef tartar with quail egg, shallot, lemon and mustard dressing, you’ll find it hard to choose. Our tip, the snapper carpaccio with cucumber, buffalo yoghurt and osetra caviar will steal the show. #9 Lavender dessert | Thomson’s Reserve | Spring Hill Everything on Thomson’s Reserve menu at The New Inchcolm Hotel & Suites is luscious, but feast your eyes on their dessert menu where you’ll find the most tantalising and unique dessert. The unusual combination includes lavender, peach, hazelnut, white chocolate… and Schezwan pepper?! Total cray, but totally awesome. #10 Turkish delight meringue | The Pine Kitchen | Bowen Hills We’re all about texture when it comes to dessert, and The Pine Kitchen’s Turkish delight meringue hits all the spots for crunchy, gooey, soft, sweet goodness. A combination of mini meringues, topped with spiced creme fraiche and Turkish Delight pieces… better order two because we’re not sharing. Words by Lucinda Kent
