This underground bar is transforming into a funky izakaya!

From cocktails to konnichiwa…

Something is brewing in the heritage bank vaults under Donna Chang… namely Boom Boom Room Izakaya, a brand new Japanese joint setting up shop from Friday, October 2!

“We have seen great success leveraging The Boom Boom Room as an extension of Donna Chang, and really saw the potential to bring a relaxed, dark and moody basement restaurant and bar, with a real intimate feel,” said owner Nehme Ghanem in a press release.

While the striking interior features of the space will remain largely the same, the menu at Boom Boom Room Izakaya will feature exciting snack-style dishes made for sharing and grazing; think bao burgers stuffed with barramundi katsu, bacon, Kewpie tartare, jalapeńo and sriracha, scampi and salmon roe gunkan (boat-style sushi), and miso-glazed toothfish with bonito mayo and shichimi.

“I have had a lot of fun researching and developing a menu I am really proud of. I think it’s going to be a big hit,” said Executive Chef Jake Nicolson.

With the addition of Jake’s menu also comes a shaken-up cocktail offering by group Beverage Director Aaron Clark—our eyes are set on the Reiki Master with Suntory Toki whisky, umeshu, pickled ginger, honey, lemon juice and smoke, and Hana with cherry blossoms, Haku vodka, lychee, green tea and soda.

A brand-new venue with jazzed-up Japanese snacks, stunning cocktails, and that gorgeous interior? We can’t wait to say “hai” to Boom Boom Room Izakaya from Friday, October 2!
