Paddington’s newest must-try from a former MasterChef contender
Emily Yeoh is back with some authentic Chinese, Cantonese, and Malaysian bites in tow!
To our delight, August is seeing the return of many foodie events.
We love a public holiday, and although the Ekka may not be on, there’s still a lot to look forward to (involving oysters, truffles, Thai street-food and much more). Make the most of these cool, sunny days and hit up one of these delicious August events!
Sadly, we won’t be able to pat a baby duckling or lose our voices screaming on a rollercoaster at the Ekka this year. But hope is not lost, as everyone knows the best part of the Ekka is the food anyway! For the first time ever, the Ekka’s beloved strawberry Sundaes, dagwood dogs and tasting plates are hitting the streets of Brisbane from Friday, August 7 to Monday, 17 August. You’ll be able to drive through at the Showgrounds or visit one of the pop-up shops sprinkled across Brisbane.
If you’re an oyster fan, August 5 is your day. To celebrate in style, check out our roundup of Brisbane’s best spots to enjoy oysters. A highlight has to be Alchemy Restaurant and Bar, where they’re offering freshly shucked oysters for $1 each from 12pm to 6pm. For the perfect midweek treat, head down and enjoy your oysters (and maybe a cheeky champagne) in the picturesque riverside location.
Calling all PINK lovers: this new addition to the Thai dining scene is your jam. Opening on 6 of August, Ping Pong is an experience for the eyes and the tastebuds. The restaurant boasts a modern pink aesthetic and a delicious Thai street-food-inspired menu. We’re most excited for the beef cheek massaman curry, sticky beef short ribs and betel-leaf wraps. And who doesn’t love an Insta-worthy location?
It’s time to enter a winter wonderland at the Veuve Clicquot Chalet, open at Customs House until September. Snuggle up in an individual pop-up igloo chalet and spend a night pretending you’re in the French Alps. Feast on a menu of comforting cold-weather bites, including a citrus poached Moreton Bay bug croissant with lime mayo, chips and truffle aioli, obviously accompanied by a generous serving of champagne!
If you’re craving some beach time and some delicious eats, you’ll love this mini-festival, held from the 6 to 9 of August. Participants can embark on a jet-skiing tour to historic Roy’s Strawberry Farm, to pick and sample juicy strawberries! Other foodie highlights include fresh fish tails and donuts, along with the brand new restaurant at the Marina–SEASARS Seafood Café and Bistro. Here, they will serve up a seafood feast, featuring the Sunshine Coast’s finest ocean catch.
If you’re looking to really treat yourself (why not?), look no further. Emporium Hotel’s Signature has just announced it will be launching Sunday lunches from August 9, with each week celebrating local Queensland produce, starting with truffles. There will be a decadent five-course degustation lunch featuring a range of truffle dishes, like fresh Abrolhos Island scallops paired with parmesan and black garlic gnocchi, cauliflower puree and truffle emulsion. Whether you’re a truffle fanatic or not, this is an event not to be missed by those after a fine dining experience.
Emily Yeoh, the hot new addition to the Paddington dining scene created by ex-MasterChef contestant Emily Yeoh will be open for dine-in on Monday, August 10. We all know that dining in is essential to get the full experience, and we can’t wait to visit Emily Yeoh for some authentic Asian flavours accompanied by a wine or cocktail! The food is perfect for sharing, so grab a few friends and head down to Paddington for a new culinary experience.
There’s nothing that excites us more than a promising new coffee joint. BLK BOX is a fresh addition to West End opening on August 10, created by the crew behind some of the best coffee in Brisbane (i.e. The Black Lab Coffee Co.) The takeaway-based joint will also offer a delectable selection of breaky muffins, bliss balls, and granola cups to keep you nourished whilst getting your caffeine hit.
August, here we come!
