An evening of jazz and food trucks by the river

Sometimes organising a nice picnic with friends and family can be hard. There’s that one person who hates every kind of cheese you bring, the person who forgets the plastic knives (that won’t cut anything anyway), and the person who just can’t find a park. Well, don’t worry, because the World Food Markets have created an event that will solve all your outdoor dining problems. Kicking off their 2017 season in February, on the first Saturday of every month By the River – Jazz & Food Trucks sets up in one of Brisbane’s best kept secret heritage locations, Newstead House Brisbane, from 4-8pm for an evening of smooth jazz, Newstead Brewing Co. Beers and scrumptious eats from 10 of the best food trucks in town. With twilight river views, this evening outing is perfect as a family Saturday, a way to chill out before the work week, or to recover from the one too many margaritas you had the night before. Bring your own picnic blanket – hell, bring five and build a fort – then after you’ve built that, build yourself your very own food baby. The food trucks change every month so you can get a fresh taste and a fresh food coma every time you attend, with everything from wood-fired pizzas and juicy burgers to cheesy loaded fries and choc-coated soft serve ice cream on the menu. newstead-jazz-2While you’re inhaling some of the best mobile food in Brisbane, relax with tunes from the Jazz Music Institute. World Food Markets have even made sure that the relaxation will never end by providing free parking, and permitting all your furry friends into the event. What calms you down more than some jazz, some food, and a golden retriever to pat? Rest assured, the World Food Markets aren’t newbies at planning a tasty day out. After rounding up food trucks and market stalls to fill everything from the Stone’s Corner Festival to the Recreate Twilight Market & Paper Fashion Show, not to mention plenty of other pop-up community events, you could say they know how to put on a feast. Be sure to stay tuned for their upcoming events! In the meantime, you can catch the next By the River – Jazz & Food Trucks on March 4, and the first Saturday of the month every month after that. All you need to take is a blanket and an appetite! Words by Kate Stevens
