Alderley favourite Willow and Spoon relocates to Wilston

They say when you’re the most happening person at the party, it’s time to move on. After winning Allianz Most Liked Café in Brisbane two years running and with several “Brisbane’s Best Breakfasts” under their belt, it’s definitely happening for Alderley favourite, Willow and Spoon. And accordingly, they’re finding a new party: as of July 2, the café will be found at 190 Newmarket Rd in Wilston. Members of their breakfast cult, fear not: it will still be the same lovely management, charming staff, great food and vintage teaspoons that you fell in love with, just at a fresh new address. For those yet to experience the magic for yourself, there’s nothing like a reno or a total relocation to spark interest. Willow and Spoon not only do fantastic breakfasts, but their menu of musically named dishes extends right through to dinner. The offerings change monthly so you’ll never get bored, but tantalising twice-cooked pork belly is a recurring theme (this month featured in the ‘Smokey Robinson’ with spiced coconut rice and Asian greens), as is their knack for turning out the types of dishes vegetarians dream of: house made gnocchi with pumpkin sage cream, cherry tomato, asparagus, baby spinach and shaved parmesan (AKA Willie Dixon) anyone? But really, we do need to talk about breakfast – it’s near impossible to choose. Sammy Davis Jr is your man if you feel like sourdough from West End’s Sol Breads topped with beetroot and goats curd relish and asparagus, and my not-so-inner sweet tooth can hardly contain itself at the thought of the Love Sculpture: roasted caramel apple porridge with ice-cream and coconut on top. Finish it off with cute interiors and an old-school teaspoon to stir your coffee, and Willow and Spoon has you sorted. Willow and Spoon | Now in Wilston Words by Jessimin Horder
