About a Boy and a Girl lands in Newstead

From the outside, you might not realise new Newstead cafe About a Boy and a Girl is anything more than a back street coffee spot, but venture in under the roller door to this industrial warehouse eatery and you’ll find a haven of wholefoods and healthy eats. Tucked away on Proe Street, the new café comes from newlyweds Jodie and Steve Hazlett, who tied the knot right there in the venue just a few days before opening, amidst the hanging pendant lights, polished concrete floors and rustic, natural décor. about-a-boy-and-a-girl-2While some might head off on a honeymoon post-wedding, these two wholefoods enthusiasts opened the doors to the café instead, dishing up all day eats, a handpicked line up of organic grocery goodies and a neat range of organic, gluten free and vegan beers, wines and ciders. Head in for breakfast and take a seat in the airy warehouse and you’ll find dishes whipped up by the 2 chefs, who are ex-Montrachet and Primal Pantry respectively – so you know you can expect good things. From the corn fritters with salmon gravlax, spinach, beetroot and horseradish marscarpone, to the weekly omelette and Mexican tortilla specials, just about everything on the menu here is able to be made gluten free, with plenty of options for the paleos, dairy free and vegetarian foodies. about-a-boy-and-a-girl-3Just want to grab something sweet and a drink for the road?
