A Taste of Kingscliff and the Tweed Coast

In its opening year, the events at the TASTE of Kingscliff and Tweed Coast Food Festival completely sold out. Now in its second year running, the 10-day festival featuring beachside foodie events is back with loads more to offer. Escape for a day, or even a few days with the food accommodation packages available, and head down to Tweed for a nautical culinary adventure between the 10th and 19th of July. With so many events to choose from, we’ve compiled a list of what we believe are the must-dos for all self-proclaimed food lovers and adventurers alike! Cocktails & Canapes | July 10 | Babalou | $50 The festival kicks off at the recently refurbished and swanky Babalou with tantalising cocktails and delectable canapés. Meet sponsors and special guests of the festival and get a taste of what’s to come over the next ten days. Taster | July 11-12 | Salt Village | Free entry Eat your way through a morning market of local produce and products at the beautiful beachside Salt Village at Kingscliffe. There will be food tastings, cooking demonstrations and all the beer, wine, food and produce you can handle, along with live entertainment both days. Black Tie Dinner | July 14 | Kingscliff TAFE | $40 Even if you’re only down to visit for an evening, you can still get your black tie on and grab a date for Caldera Restaurant’s sophisticated dinner. The evening features a scrumptious five course meal including canapés and petit fours prepared by the talented apprentice chefs of Kingscliff TAFE. To book, contact Annette Wilson of Kingscliff TAFE by email, Annette.Wilson10@tafensw.edu.au, or call (02) 6674 7242. Brewery Tour & BBQ | July 15 | Pickled Pig Brewery | $25 If a formal, sit-down dinner is not really your style, Pickled Pig’s Brewery Tour & BBQ may just be right up your alley. Explore the brewery grounds whilst sampling handcrafted beers produced in an eco friendly environment and finish the tour off by chowing down on some deliciously hearty grilled meats. Master Class | July 17 | Ripples Licensed Cafe | $45 Running out of winter recipes? Executive Chef Graham Terry of Ripples Licensed Café will show you how to spice up your kitchen by mastering  spice blending techniques and variations to compliment different ingredients. After the class, put away a delicious lunch of lamb shank samosas, perfectly matched with white bean mash and fried leek dukkha. To book, contact Ripples on (02) 6676 1234. Tweed’s Seaside Picnic | July 19 | Jack Evans Boat Harbour | Free entry As the festival draws to a close and the stress levels begin to lift, what better a way to unwind than with a picnic by the sea? Pack your own or choose fresh and delicious produce from various stalls and markets run by Tweed locals and head down to the harbour with all of your pals and rellies. Lay down a rug and have a feast or sway the arvo away with the live entertainment. There are plenty more events to choose from over the weekend – check out the Kingscliffe Events website for the full list. Who said hitting the coast was only a summer activity? Words by Sarah Nguyen
