A local affair with The Single Guys

  • Food & Booze
I’ve always had a little resentment about living in Kenmore. For most of my teenage years, I felt trapped in a bubble that lacked any culture, and it seemed that all the fun and exciting parts of Brisbane were impossibly far away. So, naturally, I was stoked when The Single Guys opened on Moggill Road in January 2013. The first time I visited, I knew I would be spending a lot of time here. The stag on the sign out the front beckoned me inside, and the service made me feel right at home.  The venue may be small and constantly busy, but somehow it remains a little slice of solace from the bustling main road outside. Mums bounce blubbering babies, teenagers talk, and coffee cups chink, but every time I visit I always see someone in their own world reading the paper or a couple consumed with each other’s presence as if there is not a peep in the room. This quality alone makes The Single Guys special, but the coffee and menu are the cherry on top. Run by coffee experts, there is always a unique blend on offer, and if you’re a cappuccino drinker you won’t be able to resist the decadent Bunker chocolate shavings that top the brew. As far as food goes, breakfast is the winner. I still dream about the belly-warming French toast and the ever-flavoursome avocado on toast. Realistically though, it’s hard to make a bad choice – just look at their Facebook pictures! I do admit, I mostly pop in briefly for some ground beans or a take away coffee with a cheeky piece of carrot cake on the run, but it always feels like I’m visiting an old friend. I may be in a relationship, but I long for The Single Guys. The Single Guys Address: 2/2051 Moggill Rd, Kenmore QLD 4069 Phone: (07) 3878 1113 By Lucy-Ellen Steadman
