A delicious week at The Barracks

Perched at the top of Caxton Street, The Barracks is a scrumptious treasure trove of restaurants, cafes and gourmet providores, with something for every whim and fancy on their list of dining destinations. With so much deliciousness to choose from, you can satiate your appetite on something different every day of the week. We’ve put together an itinerary of The Barracks best eats, to help you decide just where to spoil yourself. Go gourmand and indulge in seven days of gastronomic pleasure or spread them out, it’s up to you (we recommend the latter, for the sake of your waistline).   Monday | Peasant Mondays aren’t the stay-at-home nights they used to be. At Peasant it’s the night for digging into steaming plates of paella, with enough for two to share for $30 and sangria jugs to really get the night going for $20. Their Catalan Paella is a spicy Spanish classic stuffed full of prawns, mussels and chorizo that will have you saying ‘Arriba!’ Wednesday | Stewarts Wine Co.  If Wednesday wines are needed to get you through the rest of the week, Stewarts has everything you might require for liberal libations, from classic Chardonnays to hard spirits (for those weeks when Friday cannot come fast enough). Family owned since 1905, they really know what they’re talking about when it comes to a good drop. Thursday | Libertine From five to seven every weeknight you can whet your whistle at Libertine on $5 sapporos, wine and basic spirits before indulging in some French and Vietnamese style cuisine. Think mushroom dumplings with soy and chilli sauce alongside slow roasted duck with cherry orange confiture and brioche crumbs, a match of cuisines made in foodie heaven. Friday | Mayfield Chocolates When the end of the week has finally come around, Mayfield can fulfil all your chocolate, stress eating needs with their coverture treats. There’s plenty of boozy ones if you’re so inclined, like the Coffee Queenslander, a luscious combination of dark rum and coffee ganache in milk and dark chocolate or the cheeky Nipple of Venus (we are not making this up), filled with brandy, port and pecan praline ganache. Saturday | Los Villanos Finish the week off in delicious style at Los Villanos where you’ll eat well, drink well and have a good time while you’re doing it. Start with their house made tortilla chips served with guacamole or in their spicy nachos. Much on their crunchy tacos, quesadillas or melt-in-your-mouth meats before indulging in flaming finger lime and tequila tart for dessert. We think a whole other delicious week could be planned with the likes of Happy Little Dumplings, Pizzeria 1889, Movenpick Ice-cream, Hanabishi and French Twist also in the precinct, but we’ll let you do the itinerary for those.
