While not every airport experience is as heart-warming as the famous scene from Love Actually (though that...
We all know Port Douglas is a great base to explore the rainforest and reef, but did you know it’s also home to some stellar foodie finds?
Chase the sun this winter and head to Tropical North Queensland for the endless summer, relaxed pace and chilled holiday vibes. Pack your bags and your appetite and go!
Step back from Port’s high street and head where the locals go, to Origin Espresso! It’s a little hard to find, but you’ll be glad you did. These guys are also roasters, so you know you’ve found the good stuff. Oh and they’re a little bit obsessed with doughnuts too, so you can score a sweet treat to go with you caffeine hit from local artisans Duke’s Doughnuts.
Surrounded by lush gardens and swaying palm trees, soak up the winter sun at QT’s lagoon style pool complete with swim up bar, YES! Who doesn’t love a Rosé while you float around the pool, amiright? The resort has a whole open-space and contemporary yet quirky tropical vibe with bars & restaurants to chill in. It’s the perfect spot for a tropical vacay.
After 21 years, the Port Douglas stalwart has moved locations and re-opened on Wharf St. Here you’ll find the regions freshest seafood, epic seafood platters to share and a great spot for a long lazy lunch. There are a few other culinary changes in Port, Spencer Patrick has relocated Harrison’s to the recently refurbished Sheraton Mirage and in its place on Wharf St is Arrabela’s with a contemporary seafood and wood fired meats menu.
We love the holiday vibes and island style at Barbados at Crystalbrook Superyacht Marina. Think striped umbrellas, cool tunes and stylish lounge areas to sit back, relax with a cocktail and watch the sunset over the Coral Sea. For the beer lovers, head to Hemingways Brewery a Gastro Brewpub where you can enjoy hand crafter beers and Marina views.
Take a foodie tour exploring the amazing Atherton Tablelands with Brett’s Outback Tasting Tour. These small, personalised tours include stops at a fruit winery, distillery, coffee plantation, cheesemaker and more. You’ll be whisked away from your Port Douglas accom on a day trip sampling the regions finest foodie experiences and hidden gems.
Oh, the romance of sailing! Experience an exhilarating twilight sail on board a luxury sailing boat. I’m not going to lie, I was imagining a tranquil and calm sailing trip, but with 20-knot winds it was quite the ride, but hey that’s Mother Nature for you! Still, nothing beats being out on the water to take in those spectacular tropical sunsets.
Forget the selfie, the ultimate way to capture your holiday memories is to organise a Travelshoot! This brilliant, Brisbane based company connects travellers with professional photographers around the world. We hooked up with local photographer Rian Cope who snapped us on location at QT and down by Sugar Wharf for some spectacular Insta worthy moments.
There’s a new kid on the block when it comes to foodie festivals. Meet Eat Repeat is a unique foodie event featuring pop-up stalls by Cairns restaurants, cafes and food trucks plus live music, old-school lawn games and all the good vibes. Follow on Facebook to find out when the next event is on.
