5 events to check out this April

April is finally here – the weather is cooling down, the jumpers are coming out, and Netflix all weekend is slowly becoming a very attractive option. But we’ve got a few events that will make you stop binge watching (for at least a few hours) and start binging on fabulous food, beautiful beers, and marvellous markets!

#1 Stones Corner Festival | 30th April | Stones Corner

Calling all music lovers, food aficionados, market fanatics, and people who just need a good drink – we’ve got the event for you. Make sure you answer this call because for the fourth year, Stones Corner will come alive with the best markets, food trucks, and brews in all of Brisbane. This year, however, you’ll get the opportunity to listen to local music legends Regurgitator plus indie favourites Sahara Beck and I Heart Hiroshima. Don’t let this one go to voicemail.

#2 Best bar in the world pop up | 19th April | The Gresham

If you spend your nights wine-ing about having to go to the same bar night after night, then the event for you is about to be-gin. Rum on over to The Gresham to taste some of the best drinks from the ‘2016 Best Bar in the World’ – Dead Rabbit Grocery and Grog. It’d be pretty whiskey to miss this event.

#3 20 Hour Marathon Market | 14th, 15th, and 16th April | Manly Harbourside

We’ve been training hard for this. Many Sunday mornings and lunchbreaks have been spent pushing our bodies to the limit in order to find the best food trucks, produce, and homewares. Now, our time has come: on the Easter weekend, Manly will come alive with twenty hours of retail paradise. The gun is set to go off with the Good Friday Markets. The Jan Powers Farmer Markets on the Saturday is the perfect halfway point to refuel so you can push through to the finish line that is the Manly Creative Markets on Sunday. We can finally say we’ve run a marathon now.

#4 Live Large Festival | 15th -16th April | South Bank Parklands

We know how to do things large – all you have to do is look at the size of our wine glasses to know that – but we’ve decided to extend this practice to our entire lives. Grow your love of music, your wardrobe, and your food baby with the Live Large Festival – a two day event filled with entertainment, markets, and food trucks, plus plenty of new and exciting activities to try. #5 STARKBIER FESTIVAL | UNTIL SATURDAY, 15 APRIL | BAVARIAN BIER CAFÉ  With Oktoberfest still six months away, our unsatisfied cravings for the best German beer are making us feel a little groggy. Luckily, Starkbier (strong bier) Festival has some beer goggles to help us see a little clearer. Until Saturday, 15 April, the Bavarian Bier Café will be celebrating exclusively imported and locally crafted strong biers. While the festival officially ends on Saturday 15th, strong bier supplies will be available until the kegs run dry, so there is still time to try Lowenbrau Triumphator (7.5%), Hofbrau Maibock (7.2%) and Red Bock (6.5%). Clear your calendar, because April is about to get mighty busy. Words by Kate Stevens
