5 Boroughs brings NY to BNE

Far from just being a city of pizza and cheesecake, New York is a whole melting pot of cultures and cuisines, with the boroughs of Manhattan, Brooklyn, The Bronx, Queens and Staten Island all contributing unique flavours to the mix. That’s why we’ve been looking forward to the opening of 5 Boroughs, which just hit Stones Corner this week. Named for the five boroughs (duh) of The Big Apple, the new venue is here to show us what New York street food really is. The sorta-bar, sorta-restaurant focuses on the mixed cultures and cuisines of New York’s multiculturalism, with a whole lot of street food, food truck business thrown in – think fish tacos, beef empanadas, and duck and plum gyoza. 5boroughs4While the venue is partial to a craft beer or two, with Brooklyn Lager being the on-tap go-to, they’re set to continue the gap-filling by also celebrating the other, less-prominent parts of American booze culture. Among some impressive first-pours and a couple of killer tequilas, they’re packing a whiskey list curated by connoisseur Dan Woolley that could draw crowds on it’s own, with drops from Kentucky to Canada. That’s enough to keep us satisfied without having to even glance at the burger list, but the free-range, hormone-free chicken and beef between buns made of a specially-devised recipes makes them worth a try – and at the very least, there are slider and low-carb options, so it’s totally possible to squeeze one in without breaking your diet….or after you’ve already thrown down some tacos and ginger pepper caramel chicken wings. You’ll find 5 Boroughs at 9/401-405 Logan Rd in Stones Corner, open 7 days from 10am until late. Words by Ranyhyn Akui Images by Emotive Light Photography
