48 Hours of Eating in Port Macquarie

The home of the Honey Badger is packing more meals than a bear hankering for hibernation.
Port Macquarie is a gloriously underrated town in New South Wales, sporting stunning beaches, wineries, and primo whale watching spots. But let’s be real, we’re just here (or anywhere) for the food.
Here’s our guide to 48 hours of eating in Port Macquarie for your next foodie getaway, and yes, you can catch direct flights from Brissie to make this dream an easy reality!
Day One
Breakfast | Social Grounds
Start your day strong with a breakfast bowl from Social Grounds (a graffiti-filled hangout of hipster perfect proportions). This crafty concoction includes avocado, roast pumpkin, poached eggs, seasonal veggies and a lemon wedge for that extra somethin’ somethin’.
Lunch | Drury Lane
Do you know the muffin man? Drury Lane is known for an ever-changing menu featuring daily specials that are to die for. Head in and surprise yourself, knowing that a dish showcasing fresh, local produce is a given.
Afternoon aperitif | The Boathouse
For an evening sip with a classic beachside view, head to The Boathouse Bar & Restaurant for a pre-dinner cocktail. Settle in on the deck with a Dirty Spiced Mojito (a perfect mix of spiced rum, mint, lime and dry ginger ale) and count your lucky stars that you don’t have work tomorrow.
Dinner | Tacking Point Tavern
Knuckle down and head to Tacking Point Tavern where everyday is roast day. With a German chef at the helm, you can rest easy after ordering the pork knuckle with potato mash and beer jus. You’re in good Hans. It’ll be the perfect pitstop after watching the sunset at nearby Tacking Point Lighthouse!
Everything In Between
Throughout the rest of the day, you can pick strawberries and let Instagram know about it at Ricardoes Tomatoes & Strawberries, kick back with a brewski at Black Duck Brewery or Moorebeer Brewing Co, and tackle a couple of decadent pastries at Urban Grain.
Day Two
Breakfast | Salty Crew Kiosk
Be like the kiosk – salty. Perched right on the beach, you’ll wake up to a sea salt breeze over every smoothie, juice and bowl under the sun. If you roll in on cheat day, don’t fret, you’ll be leaving with a shake, a brownie, and a big ol’ grin.
Lunch | Agostina
Three words – karaage chicken burger! Pair this puppy with a basket of poutine and you’ll be laughing all the way to the couch for some food coma downtime.
Dinner | Whalebone Wharf
Sea food and eat it at beautiful waterside spot, Whalebone Wharf. The best of the sea is about to hit your plate, with everything from Kilpatrick oysters to seafood chowder and fresh Atlantic salmon. Hot tip: arrive early to nab a window seat over the Hastings River!
Everything in Between
Drink up all that Port Macquarie has to offer at natural wine haven Botanic Wine Garden and Italian inspired Bar Florian for a boozy little treat. If you want a cheeky fish ‘n’ chips to top off the day, grab a $2 deal from Mike’s to enjoy down on Town Green.
Stuck with where to stay? Dock at Sails Port Macquarie for a ridiculously luxe experience! (we may never leave the Boathouse Bar’s deck). Sails is home to the acclaimed restaurant, Whalebone Wharf, which turns heads with its contemporary boho style. You’ll never want to leave your lavish casa thanks to premium amenities and a pool with a view.
