Leave your swimsuit at home and pack the stretchy pants instead: this is one coast trip that’s going to be all about the nosh, not about hitting the beach in a bikini. Australia’s (and the world’s) best food and wine makers and producers will be flocking to the gorgeous beachfront and hinterland of sunny Noosa once again this May to give gourmands and gourmets a weekend to relish. Not just a pretty location, Noosa has long been recognised as one of Australia’s primary regions for fine cuisine. Since its humble beginnings in 2003, the Noosa food and wine festival has attracted hoards of famished foodies and thirsty winos, whose shared loved of a well-made meal and a well-chosen wine have united them for the ultimate get-together. Celebrating local food culture, producers will be in the spotlight this year, with the likes of cheesemakers from Holy Goat Cheese and pig farmers from Backfatter’s Farm bringing their expert know-how about the processes in creating the best base ingredients from scratch. Just think: appreciating where the produce comes from is sure to make everything so much sweeter when it gets to the tasting part!noosa food and wine festival 2 Sessions on offer over the course of the festival will include lessons and luncheons, discussions and degustations, and tastings and talks with the professionals and most knowledgeable people in the industry. With appearances from such stellar chefs such as Colin Fassnidge, Matt Moran, Dominique Rizzo, Adriano Zumbo and Peter Kuruvita, this year is set to see the biggest and best turnout yet! Just imagine: your weekend could involve a champagne breakfast on the beach (it’s on both Saturday and Sunday, so hey, why not go to both?) followed by a walk through the hinterland for a one-of-a-kind farm tour, all wrapped up with a visit to the epic wine and beer kiosks on offer. Sharing knowledge over fresh gnocchi, a debate over dessert and making new memories over a glass of merlot: if the sound of that hasn’t convinced you to splurge on the well-worth-it Weekend Gold Pass, you can still pick and choose whichever sessions tickle your fancy. Get your tickets quickly, though: you know how ravenously devoted gastronomes and oenophiles are to their specialist events! The Noosa International Food & Wine Festival runs from Thursday May 14 to Sunday May 17. Words by Kate Bethune
