New year, same us. We’re back friends, and we’re hungrier than ever to eat our way through the best of January.

Whether you’re after some finger lickin’ chicken, looking for a new gin buddy or training for the role of professional chip taster – this month is going to be hot, hot, hot – and we’re not just talking about the thermostat.

  1. HELLO CHICKEN | KING STREET | BOWEN HILLS

For Korean fried chicken worth getting in a flap over, fly straight to the kombi van on King Street and into Hello Chicken. Whether you’re all about snow cheese, ready to take roost with original or want to spice it up with crazy hot chili chicken, you’d have to be out of your cluckin’ mind not to give Hello Chicken a go when you’re feeling peckish.

  1. OL’ SCHOOL | SOUTH BRISBANE

There might be plenty of fish in the sea, but there’s only one Ol’ School. The bangin’ new venue from the Hello Please team is swimming with fresh takes on seafood favourites, although you’re more than welcome to kick it ol’ school with classic fish ‘n’ chips. Fall hook, line and sinker for nostalgia and wash down your catch with sarsaparilla or creaming soda. Helllooo childhood.

  1. GINUARY | COVENT GARDEN | WEST END

Christmas might be so last year, but that doesn’t mean we need to stop celebrating! Toss those gym buddies aside and call up your gin buddies, we’ve got the perfect event to raise your post festive season spirits – Ginuary. Kicking off at 6pm January 25th, it’s the perfect start to be-gin your long weekend. At just $39pp, count us gin.

  1. 5TH BIRTHDAY BASH| GREEN BEACON | TENERIFE

When it comes to seasonal brews from Green Beacon, we’ve learnt to expect the unexpected – and a mango milkshake IPA isn’t something you hear about every day. We wouldn’t expect anything less than spectacular as they kick off celebrating their 5th birthday bash. Kicking off at 12pm, roll under the famous Teneriffe roller door for an afternoon of beer, food trucks, tunes and chilled vibes.

  1. PINEAPPLE THROWING COMPETITION | PINEAPPLE HOTEL | KANGAROO POINT

We hope you’ve been keeping up with your cross fit because the annual Australia Day pineapple throwing competition is back, and competition has never been spikier. This January 26th round up your family and friends and get a slice of the sweet life over pints of beer, and the opportunity to win $1000 in prizes.

  1. BARKS AND BREWS | THE BRIGHTSIDE | FORTITUDE VALLEY

No puppy from Santa this year? We feel you, but we’ve got the next best thing. Fun for all beasts – two and four legged – Barks and Brews at the Brightside is prime puppy watching. Every Sunday will see the Brightside beer garden turned into a dog lovers paradise, with an off leash area, canine catering, live acoustic acts and a profit of bar sales going to the RSPCA. You’d have to be barking mad to miss this!

  1. JAZZ SUNDAYS | KING ARTHUR | NEW FARM

It’s already known for its quirky breakfast menu (hello tuna tartare taco, try saying that quickly!), buttery pastries and life-saving coffee King Arthur Café is bringing us some smooth, smooth jazz for our Sundays. It’s the perfect way to ease yourself into the working week with live music, share plates and natural wines.

  1. DOUGHLORD | FORTITUDE VALLEY

Doughnuts? So 2017. This year we’re all about cookie dough, especially from DoughLord – Brunswick Street’s latest foodie destination is as sweet as its pastel painted walls. Scarred from click bait articles on the dangers of raw cookie dough? Dough-not fear – DoughLord’s sweet treats are egg-free and use heat-treated flour, so no nasties. Whether served solo or smothered in soft serve ice-cream, it’s the perfect place to blow some dough.

  1. ARTIE & MAI | ALBION

Not just content with being one of our favourite breakfast destinations, Artie & Mai is launching its dinner service this month! From Thursday 18th Jan, you’ll be able to pop in on Thursday ($15 pizza night!), Friday (happy hour!) and Saturday evenings for a feast of small plates, burgers, pizza and more (hello pork belly bites). Not to be outdone, late-Jan also welcomes a brand-new daytime menu. Bring it!

  1. FAIR DINKUM BURGER | BANTER | KANGAROO POINT

Picture this. The Banter Fair Dinkum Burger. A brioche bun, beef brisket patty, red onion, tasty cheese, tomato, cos lettuce, pineapple, beetroot, bacon, egg and BBQ sauce. Now say that at double speed. Now add chips. Now imagine this for just $18, available all Australia Day weekend long at Banter – we promise you’re not dreaming!
