Get a whiskey education at The Gresham

Being lovers of a good drink or two (or five) on a Friday afternoon, especially when those drinks are shaken up by an expert bartender, we rate The Gresham pretty highly as an after work drinks bar. But the guys behind the bar at this inner city joint don’t just know how to end your week on a high – they also know a thing or two about whiskey. You could just take advantage of their expertise by taking up a prime position at the bar one evening and ordering a dram of one of their many whiskeys. And then working your way through a good chunk of their whiskey list by ordering 20 more (it’s a long list) until the bartender decides to call you a cab. You could even indulge in one their cocktails, like the Whiz-Bang Boilermaker, with whiskey, lemon, ginger, honey, bitters and enough pale ale to put a few hairs on your chest. But to take full advantage of their knowledge, and learn a bit yourself, you should head along to a whiskey appreciation night. During one of these educational (but boozy) events, the guys and gals at The Gresham will take your taste buds on a journey through a particular whiskey. As you sniff, sample and probably get a little tipsy, you’ll learn all about the liquid gold from an expert in the industry – and hopefully remember it the next day. If not, you’ll just have to do another. Luckily it’s a monthly event! The next appreciation night on Thursday, May 28, will take you through all things The Glenlivet. Hosted by industry legend Ben Davidson, you’ll be wrapping your lips around The Glenlivet 12, 18, 21 and 25 Year Old Expressions (kind of a big deal). As if that’s not enough to get you excited, you’ll also be some of the first to taste two brand new, as yet unreleased expressions from The Glenlivet Nadurra range. So what if you won’t be able to pronounce it by the end of the night? Tickets are $60 and are available now.
